3rd build...does it look good?

Hey. I've already built 2 PC's, and this will be my 3rd and most powerfull. Im trying to match it pretty well to the Alienware Area-51 Superman edition, which is the middle PC found here. I am good with the stock components in it, so the one that costs $1,799. However I know that I can probably save a considerable amount of money by building it myself, without the Alienware brand name making it cost double what its worth. Anyways...I picked out all the parts from newegg...heres what I got!

RAIDMAX Scorpio ATX-868WBP Case
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition
OCZ GameXStream 700W PSU
Intel BOXD975XBXLKR Motherboard
A-DATA Vitesta 1GB (2 x 512MB) RAM
Maxtor DiamondMax 160GB SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
Sony DL DVD Burner
Sapphire Radeon X1600XT
Samsung Floppy Drive

Thats what I've got so far...I dont need a monitor or speakers. Im assumnig that the motherboard has good sound onboard though. Also I just have some generic keyboard and mouse and that works fine. Does anybody see any possible conflicts, a way to improve it, or a way to save money and get the same preformance? Thanks a lot!!!

What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? If so you should get a ATI x1900 series video card. I'd also get some Corsair XMS memory. Everything else looks good. That motherboard is good, I used it myself. Easy to setup.

A custom computer in my opinion is better than an Alienware. For pricing and performance, actually.

I'd skip the Windows Media Center Edition and just get WinXP Home. I'd get the ASUS P5B Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard and I'd put in 2GB of compatible/qualified RAM instead of just 1GB. Then I'd get the Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250620AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb hard drive and the ATi XT1900. This will give you a computer that is much better than the Alienware.

Yup, if you dont need crossfire then 965 would be a better deal. At the same time to power one X1900 all you need is the Silverstone 500W , or if you doing mind not ordering from newegg the same psu is HERE for about 18 bucks less.

I'd get a Lite-On instead of a Sony drive.

Ok well thanks for all your suggestions! Honestly, this computer is not for me. A friend of mine is a gamer, and wanted to purchase that alineware computer and I talked him out of it saying that I could build that computer for much cheaper. Anyways...I am going to keep everything above except for these changes:

Windows XP Home
Seagate Barracuda Drive instead of Maxtor
XION Supernova 600W PSU
Samsung DVD+ and DVD- Burner

How does this look now?

Pass on the XION power supply, I haven't heard great things about them and it looks way overpriced.

Why not one of the ones suggested already? The first one you posted or the one Mr. Ferrari posted would work as well. Here's a cheaper version of the one you posted:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341001

Also, pass on the Samsung drive. I haven't heard great things about their reliability, and the Samsung drive I have can definitely be heard (it's very noisy). Why not a LITE-ON?

I agree with blue60007 about the psu. The better known brand the better and they don't nessisarily cost more (antec, cooler master, sparkle, etc.). And unless you are going to use a crossfire or sli mobo you don't need much over 500-550 watts unless your goign to put an ungodly amount of hdd's.

If you do indeed plan on going crossfire. I wouldnt get something a little more. By fact a single X1900XT 512mb will consume the equivalent of two 7900GT's in sli. And at peak loads it will really start pushing power limits.

At peak loads that fortron/ocz only has about 425W on the 12v rail. Albeit it will handle crossfire, in the long run although, you will be asking for some trouble.

I would suggest the OCZ GameX 700w as a much safer choice.

Although if your not going crossfire, the psu that blue and I suggested would be an awesome choice.

Hey. About the power supply...I know I have more than enough to power this machine but on the chance it gets upgraded I just want to make sure Im covered. I think now ill go with the OCZ GameXStream 600W PSU. Also about the lite-on drives...I got the same sugesstion on my first PC's to use lite-on...and they are both incredibly noisy. Ive had much better luck with my benQ and my LG drives. Ive only used lite-on CD-RW drives in the past however...are the DVD-RW better?

That 700w Mr. Ferrari suggested is a great value -- I'd go for it if you want Crossfire,

Ahh I was under the misconception you were going for x1900xt. In that case all looks good. If you wanna some money go for the $50 FSP 450W if not the 600w is overkill but would never hurt.

Other then that everything looks great.

My Lite-On DVD burner is very quiet. Some of their older drives sounded like cement mixers though.
