Pissed What a hassle.

Ok, so I'm building my first computer from scratch.

The specs :
400 watt PSU ATX 24 pin.
A8N-SLI Deluxe 939 socket
AMD Athlon 3700+ 939 socket
7700 ATI Radeon (Shhhh)
512 mb + 256 mb of ram.
2x80g IDE harddrives

First the motherboard arrived shorted out (it was used), so I returned it to ASUS to have it fixed.

I just received it back, and I did the barebones tutorial (followed to a T) from HAL9000.

For some reason, no matter what I do, the monitor isn't receiving a signal. I'm thinking that maybe its the video card now, even though before I sent in the mobo for repair, it was getting the signal fine.

Pre-story.
When I decided to give up and take it to a computer repair shop, they said it was the motherboard. So I sent it in under the manufacturers warranty. They replaced faulty parts and sent it back, and I received it yesterday.

What the is going on?

What brand and model is the PSU. A cheap/genric supply can kill parts as soon as you turn on a computer.

Its a cheap one, yeah.

Its Power Up! 400 watt.

So if it does kill parts, does that mean everythings messed up again?

What's a Radeon 7700?

Yes, a Powerup is total garbage.

By the looks of your parts list, you are trying to cheap out and use outdated or used components - any of those items could be causing the issue - mismatched ram, old IDE hard drives, etc. etc.

All the components but the motherboard were new. Mobo was given to me from a friend, so its not like I paid for it.

The 1 IDE is a harddrive with everything I've got on it, the other was bought new.

The 256 is the only one I've been using though.

Understandable, but on a limited budget you are better off going for less performance and higher quality, choosing components very carefully.

Ok, well.

Where do I go from here?

I do like the motherboard, and all I've read about it and the processor I do want to keep as well.

Everything else I can work with

I would start by replacing the power supply. You don't have to spend a lot for a quality unit. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103013

What is a Radeon 7700?

Hmm, maybe its not a 7700? Maybe its just a 7000. I dont know, its really horrible and embarassing.

I'm having a computer tech assemble the computer to see if it was just an error on my part, and tomorrow I'm picking it up.

I'm going to go ahead and pick up a new PSU and anything else I may need, even if its costly.

A 7000 is a legacy PCI or AGP card. You should be using a PCI-E card.
