ASUS A8N-VM CSM
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Aries 512MB x2 Maxstore Diamondmax+10 250GB SATA Mitsubishi FD NEC ND-4550A Aerocool 450W PSU (active pfc) Akasa AK-MCHCB Case Windows XP Home Labtec Ultra-Flat Wireless Desktop Netgear DG834Gv2 with WG111v2 LED fans x2 This is my first post and first build. I've had a huge number of problems, crashes, BSODs, etc with this machine most of which turned out to be due to a faulty DIMM. Since that was replaced everything has been fine, except... roughly 50% of the time my PC fails to post after pressing the power button. If I then press the reset button it posts and boots without any problems. Apart from that it seems completely stable. Surely a 450W PSU should be sufficient for such a simple PC? I can hear the HD spin up to speed and, like I said, the other 50% of the time it posts and boots without a problem. Also, I find that the Labtec desktop freezes every few minutes for two or three seconds, which is annoying - could this be related? One other thing, I leave the machine on standby as I find that switching it off at the wall switch results in the keyboard not being recognised on maybe 75% of startups. |

I would perhaps try a standard mouse and keyboard just to see if that labtec setup is causing the problems. It does sound hardware realated, so you need to troubleshoot by removing 1thing and booting up, then replacing, and removing another item, till you find the one that is causing the trouble. Labtec setup certainly does sound suspect though..

Did you install special drivers for the Labtec keyboard and mouse? If you did, try uninstalling the drivers and see if the freezing problem goes away.
Are the batteries new for the keyboard and the mouse? Might want to replace the motherboard battery too...just to rule that out. Cricket

I'd be leery of that offbrand ram. Can you give us the exact model of that Aerocool?

Thanks to all of you for your help. After unplugging the Labtec Desktop, I found that the PC started perfectly ten times in a row, so it seems that is the problem.
The Aerocool PSU doesn't seem to have a model number, but is the one shown here: |

That only has a single +12v rail - as long as you only use the onboard video you should be okay but I'd probably not trust it with a high powered PCI-E video card.
