Partial E6600 Build, Looking for Help!

First time poster and I am getting ready to build a gaming machine, so here goes:

Case: Antec Solo
CPU: E6600 (I want to overclock it to 3.0 Ghz)
MB: Asus P5B Deluxe
Video: EVGA 7900GS (to tide me over until Direct X 10 cards come out)
HD: Maxtor 100 GB SATA 150 drive (to be cannibilized from current machine)
DVD: NEC CDR/DVD RW (comes from current machine too)
PSU: Maybe Antec SmartPower 2.0 500W (is 500W enough)?
Ram: I don't know...I want 2GB (2x1GB), but what should I get?
Sound: How is the onboard sound on the Asus P5B Deluxe? Should I get an Audigy?

If folks can critique this partial build, recommend some memory, and recommend any alternatives where you see problems, that would be great. Thanks!

I like your selections. For the memory, I'd get Corsair XMS2 PC6400 memory as seen here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145590. Onboard sound should be fine. Don't get a sound card without testing the current onboard sound. As for the power supply, I like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151024.

Thanks! I will take your advice on both memory and power supply. I'll probably start buying and building tomorrow, so if anyone else has some thoughts, please let me know quickly

1. That antec is not my favorite powersupply, But it should handle your setup and a future nvidia dx10 card fine. If you really want a new powersupply though, this is what I say..

For 10 bucks more of that seasonic, You can get a psu thats way better and will future proof a setup with the most high end dx10 card plus cpu. This is the one im talking about:
Corsair HX 520W
Interestingly enough, also built by seasonic .

2. On the sound card, the p5b deluxe has decent onboard, but how much of an audiophile are you?

Can you tell me what makes the Corsair more future proof than the Seasonic? Is it the extra 20 Watts, or something else? Plus, what is a "modular" PSU?

Thanks!

Wow, that Corsair has three 18A 12V rails! The Seasonic only has two One at 17A and one at 16A. I believe that is one major difference between the two.

Modular means that you only plug in the calbes you need, so you dont have useless cables laying around. It does not fit in all cases.

Seasonic 500w is an older generation design for starters. It is just as high quality as the corsair brother, but it is made for a less power intensive situation. It has less juice overall.

The Corsair 520w is an whole new design. For starters, yes it is a modular powersupply. Based off of seasonics higher end models. Modular meaning most if not all of the cables are detachable to improve case wire management and overall organization. Whatever cables you do not use, just unplug and tuck them away somewhere.

It is also a much BEEFIER unit. It has 485 watts of its total power just on the 12v rails. It can handle SLI or a single high power video card with ease due to this. It is just seasonic's move into the performance market. In one word: Bang/Watt.

Both are amazingly quiet units. Seasonic makes the most quiet powersupplys on the market.

I'm going to go with the Corsair XMS2 PC6400 memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145590 and the Corsair HX520w PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139001. Thanks for all of the helpful advice. I wish I had found this board sooner
