Cd rom drive fried

I put my old cd rom drive in a new setup and it made a lovely puff of smoke. Before setting a new cd rom in there, is there any suggestions on how i could prevent this from happening again?
Everything else seemed to be performing like it should have been.

The power supply is a raidmax volcano 530/630 if it matters.

Get rid of the Raidmax PSU. It's probably fried the CD drive. Look at something from FSP/Antec/Enermax.

Raidmax didn't find themselves on the bad list without good reason.
