Try pressing enter when the PC gets to the line that reads boot from cd.

Try putting harddrive and dvd on seperate channel. That is the recommended way anyways. You may have the jumpering incorrectly set for them to work togother on the same channel.

OK, then if you are using an 80 wire ide cable, you should try jumpering both drives to CS, and the harddrive goes to the very end connection, the optical drive in the middle, and blue to the motherboard.

I can't say that I've ever tried to do that, ( install windows, with cd and hd on same channel), but my thoughts are that it may be problematic no matter what because when 2 devices share 1 ide chanel they can not be accessed simultaneously. I still think it should work, although we really don't recommend sharing optical and harddrives on the same ide channel. Smart is just a harddrive tool that monitors the health of the drive. Whats the make and model of the harddrive?

Their cannot be a problem with data cable since CD-ROM is working fine on it, are you sure that you are connecting HDD to primary master and CD-ROM to primary slave?

It is always recommended to connect HDD with primary master and CD-ROM secondary master.

Try connecting your HDD to another Computer,if it works fine on another Computer then it means that their is something wrong with the compatibility of your HDD with your former computers motherboard.

Also you can do 1 more thing, if you have another fine working computer, then take out its HDD and connect it to this computer and see if it works fine or not.

Please list down your computer specifics, the brand and model of your hardware devices.
