It all starts with a budget. Could you give us an amount?

Do you have a perference between AMD and Intel? If not, a Core 2 Duo system is definitely the way to go.

Alright let me put together a system for you. I will update this post shortly.
Floppy Disk Drive- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16821152005 ~$7 Hard Drive- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148144 ~$80 Cd-Rom Drive- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106014 ~$30 Proccesor- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103741 ~$180 Processor Cooling Fan- AMD provides a very good one MotherBoard- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131011 ~$190 Memory Modules- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145590 ~$280 Power Supply- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104014 ~$140 Video Card- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130066 ~$300 SOund Card- Try onboard first. Is this for gaming? If so, this is the setup you want (AMD). Total is roughly $1,200. If you dislike anything or have any doubts let me know. You could always upgrade the processor to the AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Windsor for about an additional $200. --- Do know that Intel's Core 2 Duo would perform better in many things, but you certainly won't be disappointed with AMD. Stick with one pair of 1gb sticks for now. WinXP 32 bit can't use more than about 2.75gb of ram effectively anyway, and XP 64 bit should never have been released. You can add another 2gb later when you have upgraded to Vista 64 bit.
