Dual Xeons or Opterons?

I'm ready to order server parts and put it all together as soon as I get advice from you all.

This server will mostly be used to run applications. All applications will be Web-Based applications which will have there own servers running them.

This server will have very, very heavy intensive apps. runing on it, and more will be added.

People will have dedicated ports on this server where they can run and test the applications from their own computers.

So I guess you got the idea this thing needs to be very powerful.

This needs to be put in a 2U rackmount cases so if I choose AMD Opterons how could I cool those? I know Intel Xeons come stock with passive cooling.

As for the motherboard, integrated SCSI would be best. We need ultra fast 15k SCSI hard drives. We may or may not choose to use a RAID. This motherboard should have 2 processor sockets.

For the memory, I am considering just starting out with about 4gb.

Would dual Opterons or Xeons be better?

I do not have an exact budget for this server, we need what we need, you know? But let's just say keep it under five grand probably.

If anyone could offer some advice I would greatly appreciate it.

If they are the woodcrests then yes xeons would outperform the opterons. Be careful, FB-Dimms are expensive and motherboards as well.
