New Build, I'm Back...sorry, need help!

Hey, I don't know if some of you remember me from a few months ago, when I was getting my parts list together and I was planning on building my PC. Yeah I'm the kid that is 16. Yeah well things got chaotic and I never did get around to building my pc and ordering my parts, basically because the money had to go to some other things, but I'm back now, with a job that is paying well and I could buy my parts as early as next week, so I need to get advise.

My budget right now is about $700 for the hole bid, excluding Windows XP and RAM because my dad is going to get me those. I have made a cheap build list, that is about $600, and $700 after shipping and tax from newegg. I made the list inexpensive adn now a super computer, but with potential, as in room for upgrading. This is what I have for now:

***************UPDATED LIST BELOW**********************

So basically I need you to double check that everything will work, and give me your suggestions.

Reasons:
Case- I picked it because its a cool, good case.

Hard Drive- its good, and its only 120GB yes, but thats all I'll need for the time being.

CD/DVD-ROM/RW- Self explanatory

Processor- I can't decide between Pentium 4 3.2ghz or Pentium D 2.66ghz, which is a better way to go? They are a dollar difference

Mobo- not to expensive, but yet has what I'm looking for, and has good reviews

PSU- inexpensive and good from the list

Video Card- GeForce 6600, nto the greatest, but not horrible, will get me through the time being before I can buy a new card

So, what do you think? Thanks!

You don't need the SATA power cables or the SATA cables. The SATA power cables are already available on that power supply and the motherboard comes with the SATA cables.

Do not get a Prescot. They are hot and slow (for gaming) in my opinion, I am using one right now. Definately go for the Pentium D 805. Great budget CPU. You don't need any extra cables. For the motherboard, nforce4 and Intel do not seem to go well together. Look at the Intel 945p chipset based motherboards. For the video card, I have that one too, and it's fairly decent I must say. Of course you can do better, though, but like you said your on a budget. Best of luck.

Cricket beat me.

The Prescotts are from the older generation - but it still runs good on games. although not as good as the Athlon64 - but it provides good framerates without much bottleneck. The only thing is they tend to be very hot so overclocking is quite limited there. I played many modern games on my new P4 pc and it's still great.

Meanwhile if you are multitasking a Pentium D 805 will be chosen instead. Games are still in single core (maybe in future - multicore) so it'll be using just only one instead of two. Remember, a Pentium D 805 = 2x Pentium 4 506.

If you don't mind a mATX board (it'll fit in an ATX case, it'll just have less expansion slots, so keep that in mind), here's one that supports a Core 2 Duo upgrade:

Just letting you know you could probably save that $45 tax if you know someone who lives in one of the 47 states not taxed by NewEgg...its unfortunate you live in one
Do you maybe know a family member who lives in a near by state where you can ship it and pick it up.
We commonly have a family member of ours who lives in NY, buy things and have them shipped to CT so she doesn't pay tax.

So yeah that Mobo looks good, 2 PCI's yeah, but I don't even think I'm really going to use em, unless I get a new sound card...and it has 1 PCI-E s lot, which is all I'm going to use, I'm not going to use crossfire or SLI..and its only $75, so people, is this a good mobo to get???

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131041

and I want a Core 2 Duo in the future, so that mobo supports it so that is good too

Yes, the P5L-MX is a great choice for a Core2Duo budget board.

Hey quick question for you all, right now I have listed the GeForce 6600 PCI-E. I know its kinda old, but I have haerd good things about it, and I have heard its a great card. Will that card be good enough to play Battlefield 2 on Medium, and games like FEAR and Battlefield 2142?

What about thsi card? Saphire Radeon X1600PRO 256mb PCI-E card?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102040

Would it make a huge difference to spend the extra $40 on that X1600?

Definitely get the beefier video card...the 6600 is awfully light for the newest games (especially FEAR).

With games, always go for the video card upgrade. With a fairly decent CPU like the Pentium D, you with get more bang for the buck in improvements in gaming than would an increase in CPU power.

Newegg does not charge tax in NY. I work in NJ and was going to have something shipped there, but when I realized they were adding the tax on I had it shipped to my home in NY where I did not pay any tax.
