DVD drive not being recognized.

On my new build I can not for the life of me get my NEC dvd drive to recognize. It is an IDE drive on it's own channel and I have tried flipping the jumper from master to cable select. Drive did work when I loaded the asus software and now it has vanished, otherwise the system is going fine. This is all on windows 2000 pro. Sorry if this is slightly confusing I have been up way to long trying to get this together. Thanks for any help

Build -
Asus MoBo
Corsair 2G memory
Sata HD
Nec Dvd Drive
Ati Video Card

Go to your Device Manager panel - are there any devices that need troubleshooting?

Optical drives are recognized automatically by the OS, no drivers needed .
Check the bios and see if it's recognized there.
If it isn't, and given that you have checked the jumpers, then RMA the drive.
