Question Does Dell Branded mean?

Hi, I was reading a magazine "computer games" and they teach you how to build a game computer for under $1000. I was concerned about where did they get those nice hardware prices. I started by the OS, I found from Bizrate.com that all the Windows XP Home Edition OEM under $78 are Dell branded. My questions are: Does Dell branded mean that when your homebrewed PC boots up the picture from Dell is displayed? Can It be installed on all PCs or just the ones which are bought from Dell? Thank you!

I think it means it's meant for a Dell PC. It's probably that recovery CD that comes with Dells (well, now you have to pay for it). It'll probably install on any PC, but the license probably says it's for Dells. Sounds kinda funny, I'd go to Newegg where you know it's completely legal and get it for $90.

Well, blue, you came to the right forum to build a budget gamer.

The place for great prices and incredible customer service is www.newegg.com.

Read some of the other threads about budget gamers in this forum for insight on what components to buy.

yea that is a good question... I never even understood how two companies can sell the exact same thing under the same name, just different brand...

is that stuff not patented... for crying out loud lol
