Welcome to Pcmech.com!
This is a list of parts that will help you out. case-65 motherboard -153 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131070 CPU-184 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115005 ram-177 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820141224 dvd burner-30 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106013 Hdd-70 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144417 video card-160 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102021 thats 839$+shipping and core 2 duo. That leaves room to play with parts, if you want something better or different. Like you could get a faster cpu, or better video card, or better ram. But that is a basic system that should work great for almost anything you want. Last edited by Foosa; 11-10-2006 at 11:12 AM. |

You really should be looking at DDR2-667 or faster for a C2D build. I'd also recommend getting Corsair memory.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145015 Missing from Foosa's list is a power supply, which is rather important! I'd recommend this top quality unit http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104954 You ask for a better video card, would something like this X1950XT figure in your budget? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102067 If that's a bit expensive, perhaps something like this X1950Pro - a logical step down http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102061 I'd also recommend switching the hard drive Foosa suggested to this one, with 16MB cache http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144701 FK

Freakitchen is right on the hdd I also missed that it was an 8mb not 16mb. |

I am guessing this is for games? I would go with the Corsair Value Select 2GB Kit. I don't know why you would want to get DDR2 675, b/c it would run at DDR2 667, but I guess it might help if you want to overclock. Personally, I would like to have an intake fan for my case (I didn't see one it your case from the pictures), but if you like it, it should be good. I have heard that the Segate 7200.10's are suppossed to be really nice HD's for the money, here is a 250GB (16MB Cache) variety that is the same price as the WD. Enjoy your Build!

Thanks for all the great suggestions. Can someone recommend me a good processor. I wanted to get my hands on one of the new duo core processors by Intel. Probably about 2.6-3.0 Ghz. Also a decent video card. This machine wont be for games but I would like to play them if I decide to.
I appreciate all the feedback and thanks for not making me feel totally stupid. |

Cool Freakitchen, they slipped a X1950XT in there. Just in time - all the X1900XT's were dissapearing.
As for the processor - what about the E6300?

An X1950XT will be able to play just about any game on Max or High Settings. I don't know about you, but I would say that it is quite a bit more than a "decent video card"
.

Cooler Master make good cases, so no problems there. By choosing one without a power supply, you've made sure you can get a quality one separately, which is a good thing

f.y.i. the case is mostly just about how it looks. Most of the cases newegg sells would work for you, you just gotta pick one that you like the looks of.
