first startup
hi All, just finished my first build. now on the first powerup I get the video card bios screen, with a lot of flickering, as in the on screen message flickers all over the screen as well as the original message in the top corner. i am guessing this is not normal. Any help?

What power supply are you using?
And what motherboard brand is that? MSI? Is the monitor new or an old one? Don't install the OS with the 7-in-1 floppy connected to the motherboard...it'll screw up the OS installation. Cricket

That video card probably requires an extra power connection, so make sure it's connected. Same going for the mobo.

The M2N32-SLI is an AM2 ASUS motherboard.
AM2 is picky about memory, so what exact memory is that (ie, brand, speed)?

At this point, I'd be looking at doing the out-of-case test

And possibly trying to borrow another compatible power supply you can swap in to test with. Ultra power supplies are kind of iffy.

Not so new

I keep a 250w AOpen power supply handy just for that reason.

Using the 20/24 pin adapter worked on the older mobos that used the older CPUs but with the newer CPUs/videocards/etc, the mother boards need the 24 pin connector plus another 4 pin. You need an ATX 2.0 dual 12v rail PSU.

As Flanzig has said, that's just not a suitable way of doing things.

Did you do the out-of-case test exactly as detailed in that thread? It's the only way to convincingly isolate a faulty component. Whenever the system is in the case, it could be shorting out.
