Can't install any games...

Hey everybody. I'm having a problem when I go to install a game upon trying to open the dvd - rom in the optical I get this error:

D:\
Only part of the readprocessmemory or the WriteProcessMemory was completed.

WHat should I do?

THanks

Now I get this message...

THe application failed to initialize properly.

I've been able to install two games a few days ago, but for some reason I'm having problems now. The only thing I've done is to switch the jumper on the optical drive to Master because it was showing up as promary slave.

What motherboard do you have? Are you using an 80-wire or a 40-wire cable? If you are using an 80-wire/40-pin cable, you simply need to set the jumper on the drive to Cable Select, then connect the end of the IDE cable to the drive.

Ok I just tried it but I'm still gettin the same error message.

I'm using the p5w dh deluxe MOBO. I' pretty sure it's 80 wire.

I initially had it set to slave and it was working fine. I installed a few games and they work fine now, but I switched it to master recently and now it doesn't work.

Any other ideas?

I just tested a cd-rom and a dvd movie and they both fire up with no problems at all... this is weird!

Full system specs please. List all the parts by brand and model including the power supply.

Did you use a genuine Windows installation CD or a burned copy to install the OS?

ok here it is...
OPTICAL = LITEON cd/dvd burner... displays as DVD RAM under the D: drive... THis is what I'm having problems with. THe error I listed above is showing up when I try to run games or even the nero software wuite as of last night.
CPU = E6600
GPU = FPS groups Epsilon 700 watts
RAM = 2 gigs crucial
GPU x1900 xt
case = P180
HDD = 320 GB seagate.

OK just fired up a movie with no problem...
and a cd-rom with class notes on it.
cannot fire up NERO sofware CD, same error as above.
Cannot fire up games...Dark MEssiah or Archlord.

I installed two games on here about 4 days ago with no problem. Since then all I've done is changes the jumper from slave to master. This is really weird.

If the ribbon cable connecting to the CD/DVD drive has a blue/gray/black connectors on it, it is an 80 wire IDE cable. The optical drive should be set to CS(cable select) NOT master or slave. If this is the only device on the cable, connect it to the black connector/blue connects to the mobo.

Yeah I have all that set up and everything is working as far as it showing up as the proper drive but I'm getting that error message when I try and install games and certain other programs.

It's definitely a 40 wire then because there are no other colors on the connectors, they're all black.

Oh boy things just got a whole lot worse... My pc won't even turn on anymore. I tried taking out the optical and I fired up with no problems, but when I stuck the optical back in, the PSU fires up for a minute, but when I hit the power button I get nothing.When I turned off the computer and removed the optical, I forgot to unplug and turn off PSU. and when I hit the power button the PC was already in windows desktop. Did I do some damage here? I really need some help here. I've got homework due by midnight, and all my files are on here

Send a message via AIM to andper10
I would put the jumper back the way it was. That just might end up doing the trick.

Nope still won't power up. When I turn on the PSU it will start up for a second, but when I hit the PC powerr button, I get nothin.

Any ideas?

Did I fry the motherboard or something?

I just unpugged everything and reset CMOS... and
well I'm getting nothing out of the PSU at thiss point. Won'e even start up at all. I'm guessing this is dead. Should I return? How do I do this since Newegg doesn't offer any warranty on it? Should I also send back MOBO and Optical since they seemed to possibly be defective. They're both under Newegg warranty? Am I going to have to eat the $300 spent on the PSU or can I get a replacement somehow?
