frist build-gamming/multimedia
im thinking about building my first PC, and of course, im a newb. i would like to build a pc that has good potential for editing videos, downloading music, and casual gaming( im not a huge hardcore gamer ). i have a budget of around 800-1000 dollars. THIS DOES NOT have to include any speakers, monitors, keyboard, ETC... but, i do want this PC to be able to hook up to my DSL internet service. i would like it to have 256mb of video graphics. i would also like 2gb of ram. a basic sound card, nothing bigger than a 5.1

Do you have any perference towards AMD or Intel? I'd go with an Intel Core 2 Duo build - they have been performing very well with video encoding and such...

Two things. 1. This is a forum not a chat room. 2. Please use the edit button, don't post only a couple minutes apart.
That said, you can build a fine gaming machine for your budget. Look around at some of the other "Gaming PC" threads, there are plenty of them. But for a rough idea, how about: Asus P5B Motherboard Core 2 Duo E6300 CPU 1 or 2 GB DDR2-800 RAM eVGA Geforce 7600GT Antec Sonata II case Seagate 250GB hard drive Lite On DVDRW.

Alaron's build looks very nice. You can also downgrade the RAM to Corsair ValueSelect DDR2 667.
