Report On Allendale 3

These are my system temperatures:
MOBO 34C
CPU 37C
PSU 32C
GPU 36C
HD 36C
running an E6300@2184/DDR2667@DDR2780 set as default. (not much app.18%)
For my hard drive bays I'm using a Zalmann 80mm; for case a 120mm Rosewill; for CPU a Coolermaster L3 AND the Intel Fan. A lite went off in my head! The Intel snapped right into the side funnel ! No mods! At factory settings, the CPU runs 28C. One night, the main CPU fan shut off because the CPU temp fell beneath my base setting!
I'm using an ABIT AW9D. After running the E6300 thru the hoops with it, I decided to keep it all. I tried 2 gigs of XMS. It was too flakey. I added another gig of CRUCIAL DDR2667. Does beyond fine. The only thing that I will change is the video card. I ran this E6300 at 2448mhz. Half Life loaded in in 20seconds. The X1600 Pro has been (quietly) whining since that run. Upgrade. If I would have had a P5B or an AB9 Pro, and some DDR2800, I guarantee that I could have pushed thsi E6300 to 4gigs!
This build moved me into the top half of the 3D 06 hierarchy, so it's OK. The only thing that I have to say is that I should have listened to Mr.F's advice in the beginning. 975x. Tried and true. You might not have a dragster, but you'll have something that will always work. I'll post more details soon. I've been very busy.

The E6300 C2D is not an Allendale, it's a Conroe...Allendale won't appear until Q1 2007 with the E4300.

The E6300 actually has 4MB of L2 cache but 2MB is disabled. The Allendale C2Ds will only have 2MB of L2 cache and a FSB of 800MHz. The E4300 will run at 1.8GHz.

From Wikipedia:

"Allendale

For a very long time, it was considered that stripped down versions of the Conroe processors were code-named Allendale. In actuality, Allendale is a code-name for a different processor. Many suggest that E6300 and E6400 are actually code-named Allendale, however, the E6300 (1.86 GHz) and E6400 (2.13 GHz) processors are not code-named Allendale because they physically have 4 MB cache, same as their big brothers E6600 and E6700 - it is just that half of their physical memory is disabled. Traditionally, CPUs of the same family with less cache simply have the unavailable cache disabled (this allows parts that fail quality control to be sold at a lower rating). The fact that E6300 and E6400 are not code-named Allendale and actually code-named Conroe has been confirmed by Intel themselves.

Quoted from TechReport:

You'll find plenty of sources that will tell you the code name for these 2 MB Core 2 Duo processors is "Allendale," but Intel says otherwise. These CPUs are still code-named "Conroe," which makes sense since they're the same physical chips with half of their L2 cache disabled. Intel may well be cooking up a chip code-named Allendale with 2 MB of L2 cache natively, but this is not that chip.

http://techreport.com/reviews/2006q3...f/index.x?pg=1

The real Allendale processors, including the E4300, will be released during Q1 2007."

Huh, I've seen screenshots of CPU-Z showing the E6300/E6400 as Allendale - but then again, those were probably early engineering samples.

System Specs

Everest shows it as Allendale. CPUZ shows it as Allendale. INTEL Tech Specs showed it as Allendale, so I named it after Allendale. No biggie. Here's the system:
INTEL E6300 (Conroe - Allendale) E6300
COOLERMASTER L3 CPU Cooler
ABIT AW9D Motherboard
CRUCIAL DDR2667 - 2GB (4x512)
Seagate 250GB 16mb PDR SATA HD as General Drive
Seagate Barracuda 160GB IDE HD as Benchmark, Gaming and Testing Drive
Sapphire X1600 Pro OCE Video Card
Creative Labs Soundblaster
Rosewill RP550v2 PSUw/50Arail (Channel Well mfd.)
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
viewing on BenQ 19" FP93GX (blows the doors off of my DELL Ultrasharp)

I am, however, upgrading the Video Card right now. The one I have really got loaded down when I ran some heavy voltages the other nite. It just doesn't have it in it. I think I'll pick up an X1950XT or similar and use that until the prices drop on these new releases next Spring. I was going to upgrade to an E6600 but the Quad Cores are already coming out, so I may wait and go to one of those. Besides, I already know what Conroe-Allendales can do.

Wow, on the Cheap Thrills article on THG about o'cing the e6300 and 6400 it has cpu-z shots that show them as allendale. That's a bit fishy...odd...fishy, oh no, which word is better!?!

Well..technically they are the first allendales...the ones that are coming out early next year will just be revision 2 allendales. Its not a bug. Its just whats already been coded on the cpu. Because all if not most of the cpu's under E6600 will be revised with a true 2mb cache. This will help cut down costs is all.

Hahaha..perhaps through some kind of BSEL pin mod.

(erm..basically, sometimes you can change cpu properties by shorting out or connecting the pins underneath the cpu itself through some conductive ink)

However..If it was that easy..well..kinda ruins the whole point of having anything more then a E6300 .

These kinda documents are locked securely with Intel..

How is that PSU treating you? I am looking at it for myself... is it this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817182030 ? I thought Rosewill was bad, but if you use it, it must be good... since you are knowledgable about this stuff...

Its a classic CWT based unit. Just like most of the Antec smart power and True power units. Not the greatest build quality, and the powersupply usually barbecues it self after being at high or demanding power loads for a certain period of time.

However they have a very good design, and can hold a load with stability...for the time they do live..

For 60 bucks there are better units out there. But its in no way junk.

This is a really good PSU. The trick to Rosewill is not to buy any series with a big V. That's the "Value Series". We know what value series normally means. This one actually lists for 93.00. I bought it from Newegg with free shipping for 60.00. I have informed the family that I want a PC Power & Cooling S610 under the tree this year. I use Rosewill in regular builds and have never had a problem with them. This one had good ratings and the guts are CW so I knew it would be a good one for a while.

The silencer series are really nice! OEM'ed by Seasonic. Single railed monsters. They are great units, but a bit overpriced for what they offer.

Another amazing unit to keep your eye out for would be this one:
Silverstone ST56ZF This is basically a server psu dressed up in black and quieted down. Now this is tough.

I had such good luck with that Silencer 470 that I'm just plain sold. I did look at those SEASONICS though. I'm going to try one of those one day!

Wanted to stick this in, per earlier post: It's the one without the V!

Be VERY careful with Rosewill PSU's - the lower price ones are L&C.
