New build matchup!
Greetings,
Working on a build with a friend and need some opinions... check out these newegg links for the processor and mother board combinations: Intel setup. http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813131031 http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16819115003 AMD Setup. http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813131011 http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16819103758 The memory for either setup would be. http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16820145034 If I go with a faster memory, say... 1066 will I see any difference? Anyone see compatibility issues? The rig is mainly used for gaming, the vid cards, power supply and the rest of the system are VERY adequate. We will tinker around with oc'ing but that is not the real goal of the build. Trying to build a rig that will last awhile and with the best bet of being upgradeable in the future. Thanks!

Either set up looks good. If as you say "tinker around with OC'ing", the 800 should be fine.

Thanks for the quick reply, the cooling issue is no problem and yes.... video cards XFX 7900gt x2
I've found a common factor with the intel sli cards from user reviews.... they are haveing their share of problems.... got any other ideas about intel sli motherboards? Lee |

Intel/Sli boards: use boards with nVidea chipsets.
And make sure you get a certified Sli PSU that is for 7900s. |

Update on new intel build...
Greetings
After doing more research into the nVidia 680i chipset on this forum and others, it seems that this is the way to go. There is one draw back, there are only two choices for this chip set. ASUS and eVGA.... The ASUS is currently out of stock at newegg (the only place I'll purchase online), and that would be my first choice although it's $50 more... does anyone have experience with eVGA boards? Everything I've read points to a pretty solid mobo. Opinions? The 680i allows for faster memory, up to DDR2 1200 and is quad core/quad sli ready! It seems to a good board for the future... So what do you think? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188009 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115003 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145043 Thanks to all, you have been, and always will be a great source of information. Your links don't work.
I think if you were to go with Intel/SLI, the 680i chipset would be your best bet. I'd rather go with the ASUS. eVGA makes good video cards, but they're fairly new to the motherboard market, so I haven't heard anything on them - either way. |

I fixed your links for you.
![]() I agree with Blue, eVGA is too new to motherboards to have an established track record. The Dominator ram is not necessary for your setup unless you plan on extreme overclocking. Just because the chipset can use it, doesn't mean it is required. Save some cash and go with DDR2-667.
