Powering Up Issue
New Build -
Foxconn 9657AA Motherboard Core 2 Duo 6600 CPU 2gb Geil RAM Geforce 7600 GT 256 Graphics Hiper 530w Power Supply Tried to turn it on and it started to whir briefly, but did nothing more. After several attempts I figured the front panel may be wired wrongly. I shorted out the power switch connector and finally got the comp up and running. Everything seems to test okay. Wired the power switch and it successfully powered the computer down. However, it still takes me several attempts to get the comp to power up. I short the pins out and it whirs a bit, but doesn't fully start - then after a few more attempts it starts and everything works fine. I checked the voltages in the Bios and they are all spot on... Any ideas, greatly appreciated. [UPDATE] Well, the answer is apparently simple. I have to double press the power button - just like a double click. Then it works absolutely fine... Press it once and it powers off.. Never come across this. Any ideas why??? Joe Last edited by jshaw300; 11-16-2006 at 07:15 AM. |

Have you checked that all the cabling is nice and secure...no loose connections anywhere?
Does the computer run stable once you have it up and running?

Hey,
Thanks for quick reply. Yes. It all seems to be tight. The computer runs absolutely fine. Typing on it now... It seems now that I can routinely start the computer by shorting the pins - but not via the switch. However, this is an upgrade - so the switches worked fine on my previous mobo/cpu combo. Also, the LED's all work and I have tried using the reset switch as the power switch and that doesn't work. |

Is the power button (the plastic button, not the electrical switch) getting stuck in the opening?

Doesn't seem to be. I actually tried all this with the fascia off my case, so was operating the little microswitch without the plastic button...

Check the BIOS for some wierd power-on option. If there isn't any, then there probably is a problem with the turn-on circuit on the PSU or motherboard.
