Help on New PC Build Please Input Needed
Ok I have about $3000 to $3500 to spend on this build. It will be mainly a gaming PC which I plan on doing some video editing on. I already have a Dell 2405FPW 24" LCD.
I like what I'm seeing with the new GTX8800 and 680i motherboards. What do guys think? I'm not sure I'll be doing any Overclocking just because I've never played around with that before. But from what I can see it's not to complex so who knows I might. Suggestions Suggestions is what I need. You guys have the knowledge so lead me down the fastest gaming PC road you can come up with. Thanks |

You have a huge budget for a gaming system... this should be easy. How about this for starters?
Asus 680i Core 2 Duo Motherboard Core 2 Duo E6600 8800GTX 4GB Corsair XMS DDR2 800 320GB Seagate 7200.10 Thermaltake Armor OCZ GameXStream 700w etc...

Without a doubt. Wait for other replies, I'm fairly new with that chipset, and people will have better recommendations as well.

4 gigs of RAM is kinda overkill. 2 gigs is plenty. Regular Windows (32 bit) can't handle over 2 gigs very well. There's 64 bit Win XP Pro, but it's not worth the trouble. You can always throw more in later if you upgrade to Vista 64 bit.

If your planning to go SLI I would highly suggest a much beefier powersupply. If not then the GXS is fine.
I would also look into a X-Fi sound card, and throw in a Raptor 10k in the GB flavor of your choice as your main windows disk. For a first, theres finally an Nvidia chipset that I would recommend. However, right now is not exactly the most opportune time to buy it. It has just released. There are still quite a few bios bugs being worked out.

If you wait till january you can build your rig with vista if you interested in it. i know a lot of people are saying im waiting till a service pack but if i get to build a rig soon i WILL buy vista
![]() their might be some new hardware being released soon im not sure when ATi is releasing their DX10 video cards. EDIT: vista can utilize more ram than xp can. and i would get 4gig ram to be future safe. since u know u have the budget i would get the 4 gig Last edited by dogdude16; 11-17-2006 at 08:33 PM. |

Personally, I don't trust watercooling b/c if it leaks, your PC is fried. So here is my non watercooled list:
Mobo - $300 - ASUS P5N32-E SLI Socket T (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce 680i - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131073 Processor - $1500 - Core 2 Extreme Quatro 2.66GHZ w/ 8MB L2 Cache - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115011 Aftermarket HSF - $58 - Scythe SCINF-1000 120mm CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835185027 Artic Silver Thermal Compound Tube - $16 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835100008 - (Larger size tube so that you will have plenty it you need to reseat it, but remember, put a grain of rice sized ammount on the processor, then spread it until it is a whiteish glaze) Video Card - $650 - eVGA 8800GTX - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130072 Hard Drive - $95 - 320GB Seagate 7200.10 Series w/ 16MB Cache - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148140 - You can pick a size that suits your needs better if you need to (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148140) Case - $170 - Thermaltake Armour w/ 5 fans (including a 25cm side panel fan that will really help your GPU temps) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811133021 - (I this case rocks, but pick a case that you like. Power Supply - $190 - Thermaltake Toughpower 750 Watt - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153038 Optical Drive 1 - $33 - Liteon CD & DVD Burner w/ Lightscribe - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106019 Optical Drive 2 - $24 - Liteon CD & DVD Reader for faster buring - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106992 Ram- $280 - 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 800 Corsair XMS - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145590 Sound - $146 - Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102005 O.S.- $140 - Windows XP Professional - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116175 Speakers- $87 - Creative Inspire P7800 90 Watts 7.1 Speakers - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16836116153 Total: $3689. I would recommend getting the Core 2 Extreme 2.93 Ghz, or even a E6700 or E6600 instead of the Quad Core to ease the budget ($980 - Core 2 Extreme 2.93 Ghz w/ 4MB L2 Cache - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16819115001), or ($512 - E6700 C2D 2.66 Ghz 4MB L2 Cache - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16819115002), or ($311 - E6600 2.4 Ghz 4MB L2 Cache - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115003) Still needs a keyboard and mouse. Enjoy your PC!

Give the quad core some time - it's supposed to be priced at $1000, but initial prices are pretty high.
If you plan on using SLI at any point with an 8800GTX make sure you get a SLI certified PSU on the top list: http://www.slizone.com/object/slizon..._powersupplies |

Dont buy the crap about XP64 not being ready. Ive got a new system with an AMD 64FX proc and im running XP64 without fail. Sure the drivers that come on the CD's dont comply, but who here doesnt already go to the website and update their drivers.
XP 64 is screaming fast and quite stable. I run 4 sticks of 800Mhz ram and have had no issues. Dont be afraid of the future. |

xp64, like wolverdick said, will require just a little bit of driver updating. It should not be considered "not ready", only it will require you to do a little more work on your end to see the best results.
the suggestions on this build are outrageous... simply great parts |

There isn't any benefit to using it that I've seen...there's a few 64 bit apps, but they aren't that much faster.
