Trying to install OS -- won't boot from DVDRW

Well I'm making good progress with my new build but I've hit a new roadblock. The subject says it all. The bios sees both DVD drives and the hard drive and the DVDRW is set first in the boot order (and it is the master). The LED on the DVDRW comes on occassionally, but unless this Liteon drive is the quietest in the world, it seems that it is not spinning at all. I've also tried disconnecting the DVD-ROM and the HDD just to see what would happen -- no luck. I've also tried clearing the CMOS -- also no luck. I've read a number of very similar posts throughout the forums and I'm having some of the same symptoms and tried all the fixes I can find with no luck. Any ideas?

Thanks!

How did you clear the CMOS? Remove battery, switch jumper temporarily, replace jumper, and insert battery again. If that didn't work, you may have bad RAM, that happened to me...

run memtest to test for bad memory
www.memtest.org

burn to a disc and try booting to that disc.

Good news...the memtest passed with no errors! And then I figured out what I was doing wrong...but I can't bear the shame of sharing it (it might have something to do with trying to install Windows using the wrong CD though). DOH!! I'm really not that stupid...I promise.

Thanks for the suggestions along the way.
