Really original----First Build need to know if my System will work together
Well, I'm building a system using Newegg.com as my reference/buyer. ( I'm using froogle to check for lowest prices, saved 80 bucks on memory that way) I'm building a gaming rig from scratch, to include ALL parts except speakers and headset/mike. the games I'm going to be playing are CSS, Wow, and bf2142, as well as photo editing (adobe) and occasional video editing. Myy budget (including everything like I said) is around 1250.
My case is made by xoxide, and although alot of people may say it's incredibly ugly, I love it, and unless when it arrives at my house, it doesnt work with my PSU or something, I'm sticking with it. http://www.xoxide.com/tank-gaming-case-black.html Tank gaming Case $50 2 LOGISYS Computer CLK4UV 4" UV COLD CATHODE KIT - Retail Model #: CLK4UV Item #: N82E16800888039 $11.98 2 AOC BOX-G5-BK Storage Drawer for Standard 5.25" Expansion Bay (Black) - OEM Model #: BOX-G5-BK $13.38 2 OKGEAR SATA DATA AND POWER COMBO CABLE-UV BLUE Model OK105 - Retail Model #: OK105 $4.18 1 ECS NFORCE 570 SLIT-A (V5.1) Socket T (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail Model #: NFORCE570 SLIT-A 5.1 $99.99 1 BFG Tech GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail Model #: BFGR76256GTOCE $143.99 (113 after rebate) 1 XTRAC Ripper Optical Mouse pad - OEM Model #: X-TRAC RIPPER $8.95 1 Rosewill RP500-2 ATX 2.01 500W Power Supply - Retail Model #: RP500-2 $47.99 1 Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz LGA 775 Processor - Retail Model #: BX80557E6300 $180.00 1 OCZ Gold Series 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ26672048ELDCGE-K - Retail Model #: OCZ26672048ELDCGE-K $227.99 I found this item through Froogle for $150. no SH*t.....and I was about to pay 145 for mushkin 1gb ram. The network card you picked out isn't needed... It only seems to go up to 200 MBits, and the motherboard itself has Gigabit ethernet, so unless you need it for something else, you can remove it from your list.
Secondly, both of your hard drives have only 8 MB cache. That's fine, but 16 is better Up to you.Other than that, it looks good to me.

Gonna have to make a few suggestions beyond Kareeser's.
First, Rosewill power supplies are not good quality, and I suggest you change it for a higher quality brand. Something like this would do the trick: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104954 Second, the Nvidia chipsets aren't all that good when paired with Core 2 Duo; far better results can be had by using an Intel Chipset board. On top of that - ECS is a low quality brand, and best avoided. My suggestion would be for this motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131030 Third, you have quite a few things there that are unnecessary. Kareeser already noticed the network card, on top of that you don't need the CPU cooler or the Arctic Silver if you're buying a Retail boxed processor (it comes with a cooler and thermal paste), nor do you need a PCI sound card (the P5B has onboard surround sound). You also don't need that SATA cable kit - motherboards come with data cables, and the FSP power supply has SATA power connectors. Finally, both your hard drives are listed as 'Open Box' or 'Recertified'. This means that they've at best been opened, at worse been used and returned. For hard drives, I wouldn't be happy with anything other than brand new. I'd actually change the Raptor and Samsung drive for one big Seagate 7200.10 series drive - they're very quick and you get much more storage for your money. If you decide to keep the Raptor, I'd still swap the Samsung drive for a Seagate or Western Digital - both higher quality manufacturers. I'd also be tempted to switch the OCZ (and save some cash in the process) for Corsair memory - if only because they're a high quality brand, and we've heard no complaints from people using it in Core 2 Duo builds. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145098 FK

People reported problems with the ethernet not working on that card, and yes I am regretting that I've already purchased it, I'm going to reutnr it to newegg and get a higher quality mobo.
also, the reason i was going with the extra cables is becuase i want a crapload of blue UV in my case umm.....does the PSU come with the HDD cables for Ultra IDE??? or do I buy them seperate? Last edited by backsplash666; 11-19-2006 at 11:55 AM. |

switching parts
oh and Thanks for the help, much appreciated!!!!!
i have already bought everything but RAM Processor Hard drive Keyboard Mouse based on your recomendations, and the feelings I was already having, I am returning my mobo and PSU to newegg and having the two recommed replacements shipped to me, as well as buying the corsair memory. I am also swtiching to a Core 2 duo 2.13 instead of the Pentium d 3.4, seeing as not getting a Raptor will save me 100 dollars, and the c2d can be overclocked like crazy. Back up a minute....please list the components you've already bought, and what you've yet to buy. It may change things a bit.
To answer your question, a raptor would make *some* difference - but it depends how much $$ you're willing to spend. The Seagate 7200.10 drives come close to the raptors for performance, and you get a whole lot more GB for your money. A forum note - please use the 'edit' function if you have something to add to a post you've already made, rather than making multiple posts....thanks ![]() FK |

I'd recommend this Foxconn board for a good budget non-micro atx mobo.
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813186102) The P5B would also be good, and it would be better suited for overclocking if you plan to do that. The suggested AX450 Power Supply is a great deal, and it will leave you room for a moderate video card upgrade. I would get HD's new, not used. For you budget, I would recommend dropping the Raptor and getting a single Seagate 7200.10 series HD (pick a 16MB cache variety: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...l&srchInDesc=). The best bang for you buck is currently the $95 320GB. I would go with the cheaper of the Corsair / OCZ because they are both good compaines for ram. It isn't worth the price increase to get the E6400. It is best to get the E6300, or jump up to the E6600 (it has double the L2 Cache, but the E6400 only has a slightly faster clock speed). You will need an operating system, Windows XP Home is $90 on newegg. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116169) Enjoy your build!
