Where do you buy your components
Ok, so I'm building my sister a comp for christmas. I usually use newegg, but I want to shop around. What are some good websites to do some shopping from. I'm starting from scratch with this build, so I'll need everything.

Newegg comes highly recommended, as I'm sure you realise already. Check out www.resellerratings.com for some opinions on them and other online stores. I've heard US residents on the 'mech rate Zipzoomfly and Mwave quite highly, too.

I have heard some horror stories from TigerDirect, but they seem to be loyal with me, prices are great, but don't even try to get any rebates from 'em.

I've had fine luck with Newegg and ZipZoomFly.

I looked for a few months at various sites, and newegg has always had the lowest prices. You might want to use mysimon.com or pricegrabber.com to cut down on going from site to site to see how much an item costs.

I'd have to say that Newegg seems to be the best one out there. Have only had good experiences with them. Plus their site is a major resource for trouble shooting, reviews and support. ( Thats easy and straight forward to navigate.)

Newegg, performance-pcs, zipzoomfly, amazon.com.
Depending on the product you can get products for a good price from brick and mortar type stores too. Walmart has speakers on sale every now and then and Circuit City's had decent PSU prices, memory, and HD prices during certain sales. I for one will only purchase LCDs from a physical store since I won't tolerate even one busted pixel.

When I am just looking to purchase a single part or two then I usually head straight to Newegg. When I am buying multiple parts, as with a new build, then I can almost always get a better deal at ZZF since they have free shipping.

Like most, Newegg is my first choice, but since you wanted different places, check out www.geeks.com which has some good sales and some gadgets, too.

Geeks.com use to have, not sure if they still do, a sale each weekday that was from 11am-3pm PST. "Green Light Specials" if I remember correctly. Quite a few products at greatly discounted prices, in limited quantities of course. Under each item is listed how many more of that product, at that price, they have left. Just FYI.

Great Reccomendations. I would dissuade you from Tiger Direct. I have had some serious problems with them in the past. They like to advertise things in stock and then tell you a week later that its really back-ordered. Things like that. I spent more time on the phone with their customer service supervisors then I did actually building the PC they sold me. Just avoid them. |

Just based on the fact that almost everything you buy from Tigerdirect requires you to fill out a rebate that you may, or may not, get back, I'd stay away from them. After getting screwed once, I'd rather pay a percentage more and get parts from some other place that doesnt completely relie on rebates, like Newegg.
I think somebody needs to organize a rebate protest, so nobody buys from a notorious rebate hog like Tiger |

I have also ordered quite a bit from Newegg and have always been happy. I have ordered a few things from ZZF & TD and not had any problems with either. No problem with rebates from Tiger either.
Some good deals here also: http://www.gearxs.com/gearxs/ |

Ya, I've heard that a while back. Not sure if "us customers" will see as good as deals, though. A couple of years ago I got close to $400 worth of stuff for either pennies or for "free" with rebates. I don't really think that we are going to be able to walk into a store like Best Buy and walk out with something for no cost.
