AMD/P4 to Sli/Crossfire
Hello, I having a bit of a dilema on which to go for..I am upgrading as a treat for myself (its christmas and the joy of no wife/kids) LOL
And i could do with some help on which to go for AMD/P4 and SLi/Crossfire ? I have read a good number of threads here but i am still stuck, Budget wise on board and chip im looking at around £350-£400 GBP Think thats around $600-$700, But lower end of my budget means better ram LOLAlready got my eye on nVidia 7900GTX cards For SLi, But totally lost on the ATI side But budget wise on cards £200 Per card, Hope you guys can point me in the right direction as always on this site ![]() Thanks alot And Best wishes for the holidays

What is the total amount your looking to spend for everything?
The 7900gtx is nice. I'd advise you to get an Intel Core 2 Duo.

That is plenty of money for a very good gaming system.
CPU: Core 2 Duo E6600 MEM: 2x1gb Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 VID: eVGA 7900GTX HDD: Seagate 7200.10 250gb DVD: Liteon DVD burner MOBO: Asus P5B Deluxe Are you sure the Thermaltake power supply is enough? What are the specs on it? It might be wise to replace it if it was one that came with a case. Edit: You said you wanted SLI, are you sure you need it? For Intel, it is best to go with one nVidia card. If you wanted two you would want to go with ATI's Crossfire. |

What do you personally want, AMD or Intel? It is up to you, but benchmarks show that the Intel Core 2 Duo beats what AMD has to offer.
For reference, this is generally the best way to go: Intel - Crossfire AMD - SLI |

Intel CPU's have a clear advantage over what AMD has to offer at the moment.
That system that newbuilder14 has put together there is an impressive setup! I have a preference on ATI cards, regardless of using an AMD or an Intel CPU.
