Advice Welcomed

Hello everyone, i have just recently stumbled upon this site on my search for a pc building guide. I have been looking at components for a new pc for the last few months, and intend to build it around christmas. I'm not on a huge budget, but i would like this to still be a decent pc that will be upgradable in the future as i will be heading off to college.

This pc will be used mainly for gaming, schoolwork, email, etc. Nothing really complicated. (May decide to overclock in the future) As you probably have guessed by now, this will be my first build and I am looking forward to it. I will be using a few things from my current pc as a money saver.

Things i will be keeping from previous pc:
-19" Samsung LCD
-mx518 gaming mouse
-keyboard
-Speakers
-CD/DVD drives (with IDE cable)
-XP Pro OS

The budget I am aiming for is a $600 subtotal without a graphics card ( That will come at christmas )

Like i said, i have been doing some research over the past few months and this is what i have come up with, some feedback would be great.

Core 2 Duo e6300 ~$180
Gigabyte S3 ~$116
Corsair XMS2 1GB stick DDR2 800~$140
Rosewill 550w PSU~$49 with instant savings (was $65)
WD Caviar 80gb sata 3gb/s HDD~$44
NZXT apollo mid tower case~$70-$15 mail in rebate
Sata cable~ $5

This gives a total of about $604 which is within my range.

The video card i will most likely be receiving at x-mas will be the 7950GT KO Superclocked.

Tell me what you guys think. Will look into a soundcard and another gig of ram in the future, but i want to get this thing built first. Thanks

The Gigabyte S3 board your looking at is the GA-965P-S3?
With getting a X1950 video card, I would look for a better brand of PSU than the Rosewell.

One of these three brands:

The Rosewell I believe is Newegg's house brand which could be made by anyone.
