Another Xmas present review...

This is what I'm considering for my stepson for xmas. He does some gaming, but is way more into his Xbox than PC games. I don't want it to be a screaming gamer--he spends enough time doing that already. This fits in the budget, and seems like a good machine for internet, homework and a little bit of Warcraft.

What do you think?

AMD Athlon64 3700+ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103539
ECS RD480-Q939 http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813135008
Saphire 100119L Radeon X550 http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16814102565
Sparkle ATX-400PN-B204 http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817103013
pqi DDR400 x 1GB http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16820141198
WD800JD Sata3.0 http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16822135106

+ a Lite On DVD burner, case, etc.
I already have an OS for it.

Need to know if that video card is compatible with the board and everything...

Thanks...

**edit: posted a link to my wish list on my personal account...der..

I think you need to make that wishlist public for the rest of us to see it, telegramsam. All I get is the account login page.

Not a bad start for a budget system. First thing I'd do though, is skip the ECS board. With such an important component, it's not a good idea to skimp on quality.

I'd get the ASUS A8N5X - a great board at a great price.

I know this system isn't going to be a gamer, but I'd suggest spending a bit more to get a current generation video card. The cheapest decent unit in ATI's X1xx series is this:

Go for a 2x512MB RAM kit to get dual channel operation. I'd recommend some corsair Value Select.

Power supply is fine, as is the hard drive.

Cool
Thanks for the advice. I know nothing about video cards, so I really appreciate the help...

I'll revise my list!

Everything looks great... how about an x1600pro video card?

I'm totally stupid about video cards.

What am I looking for besides compatability with the motherboard?

I figured out that memory size and clock speed are important (the more/faster the better), but I can't see what the difference between the new generation and old are. How do you tell?
