I have new plans for my build, is this a good start?

http://usa.asus.com/products4.aspx?m...l1=1&l2=1&l3=0

I really want to get additional information about this barebone. Particularly, WHAT IT INCLUDES lol

some barebones leave things out and what-not, so I am in the dark. I will look on newegg here shortly but this seems like a great place to start my build, and if it has enough things included with it to start off, I will start my "project" in just a few days.

thanks for any input

Looks like all you get is the case and motherboard with onboard graphics, onboard sound, onboard lan, and a low power PSU.

If you want to build a system then I'd advise you choose each component yourself rather than buying barebone systems.

I wouldn't use a bare bones either, I'd rather select every single part to ensure I'm getting good quality parts.

A lot of the reviews have stated that they put a 7600gt in there. After looking at the minimum power requirements, it says that it needs 300W. That psu seems reliable as well, as very few have reported DOA.

I stayed up last night and put a parts list together. It comes to $496.95. I like it as it is right now.

For the dollar, the motherboard is great b/c it has as many ram slots as I wanted and if it can power the graphics card that I was going to put in than that is even more money saved. There is a problem with the raid for the motherboard, but I am not going to use raid anyways.

it can PLAY all games to date, more than perfect for me and I like keeping my resolution low so that is even better.

I decided to get a single stick instead of putting a 2x ram kit like 2x 512 to dd more ram later on.

Motherboard uses sata 1.50, more than acceptable to me. This drive seems to be in the sweet spot for price/ capacity.

the processor I have chosen is single core, basically b/c of the price. I know I will get the performance out of it that I need for gaming and I am pretty damn sure that I will be more than happy with it.

that is all that is needed. I think the barebones works great b/c usually, people don't use some of the parts in the barebone, but I will use all of them most likely. 300W psu powers the gpu so that is all gravy. Motherboard is, in all honesty, past my expectations and I really like the case.

$496.95 the Price is Right Bob; what do you guys think now

That system is probably on par or a little less than an equal priced Dell.
The PSU is made by Bestec.

If you plan on adding a seperate video card to the system then it would be to your advantage to go for a motherboard that doesn't have onboard video. Time and again problems arise because of the onboard video interfearing with the addin card.

I still have my doubts about that PSU. 300Watt is probably the minimum recommended for the 7900gt. Nvidia actually recommend a 350 - 400 watt PSU for that card.

I really feel it would be worth your while to hand pick all the components.

7900gt needs 450W I think, I am looking at a 7600gt.

People are saying that it works well with the system. I planned on buying a few more fans though.

I would upgrade the processor later on, perhaps in a year. I was told that an athlon 64 3500+ is the minimum processor to run fear (or recommended, granted you had a good enough graphics card).

I feel like you guys just aren't giving the system any props... I have hand selected parts before but they were unnecessary. I could get an antec sonata II (preferrable to me) with a 450W psu but with this barebone I get a motherboard that does everything I want it to do, as well as a case that I really like and a power supply that a lot of people have said works great with the graphics card I've chosen.

I will reconsider this if you guys can give me reasons it is "on par or a little less equal than a dell". I think this will work just fine for me. Gaming, but without all of the bells and whistles. I'd probably get some round cables for IDE though.

Seems like you already have your mind made up. The parts selection looks okay. Go for it.

Don't attempt to run a 7600gt with a 300w power supply. I believe the minimum suggested was actually 400w. I'd recommend the Fortron Source 400w for you.

The only "wrong" part is your powersupply. Its a poor quality bestec unit. I highly suggest you get your own case and a decent powersupply. You dont need all that much power, just something reliable.

The motherboard isnt the best, but you will get by.
