Low-End Build for Sister

I have to build a new computer for my sister. All she'll be using it for is internet stuff like browsing, messenging, etc. I highly doubt she'll ever go into any gaming. The budget is $800-$900.

Quote:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (Can someone give me the current price for this? I can't find the 939 one on NewEgg)
Motherboard:Gigabyte GA-K8N-SLI - $74.99
GPU: eVGA 6600GT - $99.99
Memory: Corsair ValueSelect (2x512MB) - $108.99
HDD: Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600JS - $57.99
CD Drive:LITE-ON 16X DVD±R DVD - $31.99
Case: XION Solaris - $39.99
PSU: XClio 450BL ATX 450W - $39.99
OS: Windows XP Pro - $139.99
If I assume the CPU is $200, then everything adds up to $793.92. And since I'm ordering in California, I have to pay the tax thingamajig and that'll make it $855.45.

Can I get Windows XP Home instead of Pro? The reason I chose Pro is because I was told I needed it for the dual core.

"I highly doubt she'll ever go into any gaming." If that is the case, drop the SLI motherboard and get a better quality Asus board. Everything else looks fine. Have you looked into the Intel Core 2 Duo?

For dual core CPUs, you only need XP Home.
For dual CPUs mother board(server type) then you need XP Pro.

If she's not gaming, no need for the 6600GT. Grab an Asus board with onboard video. You could always add a card later. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131570

Would that board work with the ATX case I selected even though it's micro ATX?

Yes, it has mounting holes for both.

Why do you have to build her one? If all she will be using it for is web surfing and messaging, building would be a waist. I would look into a dell. Killer deals and can't beat the prices on a dell for the low end. Take whats left of the 800-900$ and pocket it.
