Low-End Build for Sister
I have to build a new computer for my sister. All she'll be using it for is internet stuff like browsing, messenging, etc. I highly doubt she'll ever go into any gaming. The budget is $800-$900.

Can I get Windows XP Home instead of Pro? The reason I chose Pro is because I was told I needed it for the dual core. |

"I highly doubt she'll ever go into any gaming." If that is the case, drop the SLI motherboard and get a better quality Asus board. Everything else looks fine. Have you looked into the Intel Core 2 Duo?

For dual core CPUs, you only need XP Home.
For dual CPUs mother board(server type) then you need XP Pro.

If she's not gaming, no need for the 6600GT. Grab an Asus board with onboard video. You could always add a card later. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131570

Why do you have to build her one? If all she will be using it for is web surfing and messaging, building would be a waist. I would look into a dell. Killer deals and can't beat the prices on a dell for the low end. Take whats left of the 800-900$ and pocket it. Last edited by Foosa; 11-27-2006 at 11:19 AM. |
