Hello everyone!
I've been browsing this forum for a while and i've noticed a lot of knowledgable people so i'd really appreciate some feedback on a system that I was putting together. This will be my second build and will primarily be used for gaming, although I occasionally get into some photo/video editing. I normally run multiple applications at one time so i'm aiming for a system that won't run into any hitches while gaming/running apps./etc. I'm looking to spend about 1500-2000$ on the system (not counting fans and things like that, although i'd still like recommendations on those components). Here's a list of the components I am considering for this system: Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115003 Motherboard: Foxconn 955X7AA-8EKRS2 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 955X ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813186058 Power Supply: Thermaltake W0106RU 700W Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153039 Video Card: EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GTS Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130071 Memory: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145034 Hard Drive: Western Digital Raptor 150GB 10,000 RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA150 Hard Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136012 CD/DVD Drive: LG 18X DVD±R Super-Multi DVD Burner With 12X DVD-RAM Write http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827136103 Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS Platinum 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102163 I haven't decided on a case, so i'd like some opinions about full tower cases that are relatively inexpensive and easy to modify. My real concern is the compatibility of these components as well as any known problems with any of the above equipment. Any feedback from the community is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! |

The Foxconn board doesn't look like it supports Dual core. Take a look at Asus P5B series of mother boards, should be able to find one with options you want.

Thank you for the response, flanzig. I totally overlooked the compatibility issue so thank you for bringing that to my attention. This motherboard seems to have a lot of great features and a decent product rating:
ASUS P5W DH DELUXE/WIFI-AP Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131025 I'm hesitant to go with ASUS again because I encountered a few problems with my first ASUS motherboard, but it seems like they have some of the best on the market right now. Any opinions about the other components i've listed? |

Nice choice on the mobo.
For the HD, go with the Seagate 7200.10. They perform just about as good as the Raptor/have long warranty. For cases, just use the Newegg search in the case section/select price/size/color/material/etc-should be able to find something you like. |

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll definitely look into that hard drive! I guess all of the other components (video card, sound card, etc.) looked alright? I wasn't sure if I needed a power supply that beefy, but I suppose it couldn't hurt with the video card that I plan on running.

Consider an ASUS P5B. The P5W DH supports Crossfire...which you can't do with an nVidia video card...so I'm not sure I'd shell out the extra $100 for a feature you won't use. Not that it's a bad board or anything, but no need to spend more than you need to.

That's the only real difference between the two MBs? If so, i'll take that into consideration. Thanks again for the continued feedback.

Not so new

If you want the extra features of the P5W DH, I strongly suggest you get the Asus P5B Deluxe - basically same thing with no Crossfire support which you really don't need.

Are there any viable alternatives to ASUS motherboards at the moment or are they the best way to go?
