onboard sound not working

not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but here it goes.

I just moved my system into a different case (so i could experient around with some modding on my normal case) and everything went smooth except for my onboard sound on my ASUS A8N5X stopped working. I have no idea what happened... i even tried installing a 5-6 year old sound card (onboard sound is much better than this card) and it installed fine and still no sound... the only way i can get sound is if i have USB headphones hooked up.

Please anyone have any ideas?

check in the device manager to see if any problems with the sound controller. Also, if you hooked up case audio jacks, disconnect them to see if you get sound from the mobo jacks.

Double check the I/O shield. One of the metal tabs could be grounding out one the audio jacks.

If one of the metal tabs on the I/O Shield is grounding out one of the audio jacks should that be visible from the outside of the case or will i need to remove the motherboard to verify it definitely is not a grounding issue?

Thanks again for all the suggestions flangzig1
