Unhappy PC Won't Boot

I have a Gigabyte K8NS Ultra 939 mobo, AMD 3500, 1 gig ram and ATI AIW 9800 pro. It was running fine. I came home today, and it was off,(I leave it running). I was downloading Ubunto last night. Now when I hit the Power switch, it lights up, (DVD drive) but no monitor output and no beep codes.

Sorry, I didn't really know what forum to start in, but it is my build. I just wanted an opinion before I tore into it. What to look for or try.

Any help would be appreciated.

Dale

What power supply are you using? make and model?
You could start with the out of case build and the minimum amount of hardware as described here: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409

Psu

The power supply I'm using is an Addtronics, it came with the case. Addtronics 7890 I believe. It is only 300 watts, but it's worked fine for quite a while.

I did try the out of case build. The CPU fan spins and the RAM LED lights up. I took out 1 stick of ram, tried it. Replaced it with another stick of ram, still nothing. I even replaced the video card with a spare pci video card, I've had northbridge chips go out. Nothing.

I don't have a spare processor or mobo so I can't try that. Any other options would be appreciated. What would you do next?

Sorry it took so long to get back, I've been very busy. This is worse than a BSOD.

Time to try a new power supply. That video card says minumum psu rating required is 350 watts. And that needs to be Quality power. Check out the Sticky threads in Gen Hardware for a list of recommeded brands.

I agree with Panama Red...a 300 watt PSU running your setup must have been running pretty hard for some time now and it finally gave out. You may want to look for a power supply with more than 400 watts if you plan to upgrade anytime soon.

Power Supply

You were right!!! It was the power supply. I went out and got a new one and it booted right up. It will take me a little time to get the pieces put back together, but I can get back to my computing. I wanted to let you know right away and say thanks. I was afraid it was my cpu.

Great Goin' !!!!

It's pretty hard to destroy a properly installed CPU. Lighting strikes and really cheap, explode in your face PSUs are what generally kills CPUs.

You are lucky your PSU didn't take out anything along with it.
