1st PC Build - Parts

Found this site by looking for a guide on building a PC, and I would like to know if these parts that I'm going to be installing are great or under par- and what I might be missing (that is neccesary for completion) for it...:

Chassis:
$39 - Rosewill ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147057

Floppy Drive:
Just removing it from my current computer and installing in new- who really uses floppy drives anymore?

Hard Drive:
Need Suggestions: 50-80GB HD within $40-60...

CD-ROM Drive:
Just removing it from my current computer - no problems in current.

Processor:
$100 - Intel Pentium 4 / 3.4 GHz, 800 MHz / Boxed Processor with HT Technology
http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...ct_code=319447

Processor Cooling Fan:
Provided with above processor..

Motherboard:
$100 - ABIT AS8 ATX Socket 775 Motherboard, for Intel Pentium 4 HT Processors
http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...ct_code=317855

RAM:
$120 - Viking Interworks 1GB DDR DIMM Memory
http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...ct_code=341169

Power Supply:
Current will do fine...

Video Card:
$0 (Already purchased) - ATI Radeon 9250
http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...ct_code=316268

Keyboard:
Undecided- Suggestions welcome to a relatively cheap wired keyboard.

Mouse:
$10 - Kensington PilotMouse Optical Scroll Mouse
http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...ct_code=307556
Approx. Total: $435
I approximated the cost of the undecided items...

So now, I need help finding the products in red (Keeping note of my approx. AKA wanted end price in mind).

Also, if you find anything is incompatible with the other (such as RAM with motherboard, CPU with motherboard, HD with motherboard, etc..) PLEASE let me know before I buy

Anyways, tell me what you think of the current items I have picked out for my new PC.

Thanks

First, I really need to turn you to Newegg.com to look for your parts. You will learn a lot by going to that site, and you'd be surprised at the prices. I have done a lot of business with them because of their excellent customer service and prices.

You have selected a P4, motherboard, and memory from CompUSA while you can get a better Pentium D 805 (dual core), a higher quality Asus motherboard, and some Corsair memory for cheaper at Newegg.

Are you gaming? That video card really won't be sufficient for any gaming.

Let us know what your budget is so we can help you put together a solid build list.

Oh and by the way, welcome to the forums.

Actually, the reason I chose from CompUSA is because I have a friend who works their and can get me discounts

Anyways, if I was to put a list of my budget and what I want it would be like so:

I would not want to spend more than $500- I want a FAST (Get the hint ?) computer with a lot of memory. Space is not that big of an issue, as a 60-80GB hard drive is sufficient for me.

Personally, I would want the processor to be above 3.0GHz, but in the order I would want to spend most on from greatest to least would be:

RAM
Processor
*HD
*Motherboard
Case
CD-Rom
Burner
Keyboard
Mouse
*Both are close in want..

If you're catching my drift there, you'll see I want the fastest for my price range.

I would *prefer* 2GB of ram, but I know it's pretty expensive (if I could, even **4GB).

**Or max that the motherboard & processor can handle.

The Rosewill R6A34 is a better case and better looking. What exact PSU are you using? Some of the newer boards may not be compatable with it.

Looks like it came just under price with an estimated total of $415.

That is not inlcuding the power supply which I'll now need help picking out

Downgrade to the Pentium D 805 and get the P5L-MX board with Corsair ValueSelect DDR2 667 memory. It will be a nice setup.

I'd get this Fortron unit instead, gives you room for a PCIe video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104953

Your parts are awesome. Actually I'm using that exact mouse right now.

Oh and for the hard drive, just throw this in and your all set: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822135106 Have you considered 2x512mb of memory instead of just 1x1gb for a performance boost?

EDIT:

So I found this memory (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145568) which is 512x2 for $106- better deal?

The extra performance boost is worth the extra $3.

Ok, looks like I'm set now.

$420 Total

By the way, I listen to music a lot and like quality- I have a woofer and all. Is a sound card worth it?

Still try the onboard sound first. It may be very decent. The good thing about your setup is if you ever want to play any games you can with a reasonable video card such as the 7600gt.
