THIS ROOKIE NEEDs YOUR EXPERT ADVICE

I got this computer several years ago as a gift. I want to play some of the more modern games. Its time to upgrade this is what I have


Pent 4 1.7
Nividia G-force3
256 ram
80 gigs hardrive
super macro P4STA mother board used with RDRAM


Please give me some advice on what I need and how much it would cost for an upgrade. Do I need a new mother board? Thanks

You need brand new parts. Unfortunately the only thing worth salvaging from that PC is the hard drive - and even then I'd keep it just for storage not for my operating system and programs.

About how much are you willing to spend is the question... I can suggest many setups if given a dollar amount.

Man that sucks!
I want to build a PC that is geared towards gaming and graphics. Price isn't really a concern, I just want the most bang for the buck. Thank you

Well, if pricing isn't a concern, definately go for this:

Core 2 Duo E6600
Asus P5B Deluxe
2x1gb Corsair XMS2
250gb Seagate 7200.10
Liteon DVD Burner
500+ watt power supply
nVidia: GeForce 7950gt ATi: X1950XT

You should get away with under $2,000 with perhipials included, too.
