Hi
Thanks for accepting me on your site. I need a new pc and for educational purposes am thinking of having my grandkids help me. So after copying off the steps to build on your site, without me having read them word for word, are all the steps inclusive for building a dual core, thinking of all the options amd x2 4200-4600, so if i am not asking this question for the many times some one else may have already? I just got the registration finished so haven't had time to look over the forum questions. Sorry for being so gabby. Thanks Woodie |

There is no difference between installing a dual core processor and a single core processor.
Basically just put it in the socket and make sure the heatsink/fan unit is on right. If you let us know your budget and any parts you are looking at, someone will help you tweak the list for compatibility, etc..

Here is an excellent starting point:
Motherboard: Asus P5B CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo e6300 RAM: 1GB Corsair DDR2-667 Video Card: eVGA Geforce 7600GT Case: Antec Sonata II with 450w power supply Hard drive: Seagate 7200.10 250GB SATA Optical: LiteOn 16x DVDRW OS: Windows XP Home Should run you around $8-900 for the PC itself without the monitor, etc. That system will be good for gaming and multitasking.

You will need DDR 400 memory, not DDR2 400 memory. Look into hard drives with 16mb of cache such as the Seagate 7200.10 series. I'd get the Asus A8N-E motherboard.

In need of new pc
Thanks
This is what a major builder is showing for specs? on the xp2? DDR2 is a memory architecture that enables systems to improve performance and reduce power consumption. The amount of RAM you have determines how many programs can be executed at one time and how much data can be readily available to a program. It also determines how quickly your applications perform and how many applications you can easily toggle between at one time. Simply put, the more RAM you have, the more programs you can run smoothly and simultaneously |

DDR and DDR2 ram are not interchangable. DDR has 184 connections and DDR2 has 240.
XP Home for general use and XP Media for multi media use(watching DVDs/home theater use/etc).

Thanks
I had a local quote using DDRII667 on a AMD Athlon 64 x2 3600+ Socket AM2 Dual Core CPU,and with a Asus M2NBP-VM CSM Socket AM2/ Quadro NVS 210S/ DDR2/ SATA2/ A&V&GbE/ MATX Motherboard, then i found this article http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...spx?i=2762&p=2 i guess i have to naturally be more specific here as to what my intentions are, just trying to lay the ground work. sorry for the confusion I am leaning toward the 4200 not the 3600. Thanks |
