Odd turn on/off and video problem.
Experience and Computer Info:
I recently started building my computer and all the parts are new. I'm a first timer at building a computer, but I've got some friends around town that have tried helping me out. Mobo: Asus P5NSLI Power Suppy: Ultra-X 550w. Video Card: XFX 7900GT Memory: One 1024mb DDR2 633mhz HDD: 250GB hard drive I also have four fans in total runnng: One front, One back, CPU, and Power Supply. I'm positive the memory is in the correct slot and I have all of my power supply cables connected properly. I ran the power supply test with the paper clip: Power supply worked flawlessly. Problem: The problem with the computer is when I turn it out, Video might come on and it might not. If it does come on, It takes about 10-15 seconds for the monitor to turn on and show the 'Press the DEL key to enter BIOS' screen. I've gotten into the BIOS only twice at the moment because my computer either shuts off before I have any video at all or shuts off while I'm looking at the BIOS. Majority of the time I don't get video at all and If I do, the keyboard / mouse comes on at the same time as the monitor button turns green - Almost like the motherboard in general is waiting to send out the power. All suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

7900GT's were famous for being problematic. Heck I had to help a friend of mine rma his 3 times. And its still having occasional issues.
Especially since its a xfx cards. Who are known for overclocking their cards without any care or proper precaution. So I would think of RMA. Also what exact model of powersupply do you own? Is it ultra x-connect? If so give us the UL number. It should be somewhere on the powersupply label. Starts with an E. Also what exact memory module?

On my motherboard, I have an issue where the system will pretend that the video card is not connected (Gives the video card error) And the machine won't boot up. What I have found appears to be an issue with some systems is that the capacitor's on the system will not be fully charged up when the video card tries to power up and sometimes the computer will freak out. The fix I have on my machine is that I will power it off and then back on again (To not let the Capacitors get time to discharge) This seems to do the trick for me. Are you getting any of the PC Squeeker beeps when you try and boot up your machine? This has happened ever since I got the 6800 GT. The Gainward 4800 SE that I had before did not do that.

Didn't notice you asked what type of memory module. Sorry.
