Finalizing Build: Please Comment
Hey all. Been trolling this board for quite some time now so my build may seem pretty bland, but I just want a stamp of approval or input before I go ahead and hit the order button. This is my first build in 3 years:
- ASUS P5B $139.99 - Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 $181.49 - CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) $199.99 (or CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) for $40 more after mir, although I am not very interested in trying my hand at overclocking) - SAPPHIRE 100176L Radeon X1950PRO 256MB $199.99 (or SAPPHIRE 100189L Radeon X1900GT 256MB at a savings of $30) - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording) ST3250620AS 250GB 7200 RPM $79.99 - FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX500-A, 500W $89.99 Please let me know if you have anything to add, change or suggest. Thanks much in advance for any help. |

Also, if anyone could comment, the big thing I am hedging on right now is that I can get a custom package from Dell for about the same price (about $20 more) with the following drawbacks:
- no idea on specs on MB - 1GB RAM - GeForce 7900 GS (downgrade) - No idea on brand of HDD, Mem, or PSU (or wattage) But: - One yr tech support - No assembly necessary (although this is not my first build, any time I build it makes me nervous as to potential problems) Please feel free to comment on this other possibility, although I am heavily leaning towards building. Thanks again in advance. |

Mr. Ferrari convinced me to get the Aerocool ZDBA 500W.
You can read about the thread here. Have fun, I hope to order the parts tomorrow. Edit: Quickster, instead of posting twice in a row they prefer you just hit the edit button. I started this build by checking out Dell but they could give me no specifics on component so I could check the quality which is one of the prime reasons for self building. You have more control over your rig. Be your own tech support- heck, you got us and we speak English as our first language- well, the vast majority of us do- you get my meaning.... Besides, it is more fun! Just do it yourself. Last edited by TimPoet; 12-06-2006 at 12:52 AM. Reason: revise |

The Dell will have the following drawbacks:
Power supply not suitable for any video card upgrade over and above what it comes with. No bios tweaking available. |
