First Build... Just want some Opinions

I have moderate internal PC experience but this is my first "Ground Up" build. I am pretty sure I have selected everything I will need to make the Mid/High range Machine but just want some Techies to give my selections a once over and give it the Thumbs Up or Down on particular parts (or the whole thing if need be)... So feel free to rip my PC apart and re-build if you think I could do better... I haven't bought anything yet since I wanted some re-assurance before dropping that kind of money... I am looking in a $1000 - $2000 total build cost... I already have a New Case, 700W Power Supply & HD

INTEL's C2Ds are the way to go. Are you going to be gaming and overclocking?

Some Gaming, but more Multimedia editing and multi-tasking large programs... But I want something that can keep up and provide some power for potential future programs

Why not just go with a DDR2 motherboard and some DDR2 RAM, over that DDR 400? Other than that, it looks sick man. 8800, I envy you .

as stated above,
Core 2 Duo is the best line of processors right now, if your looking for performance thats the way to go seeing as how they are outperforming all the AMD processors

You'll end up getting a DDR2 motherboard then, so you'll have to pick new RAM

man that 8800 is nice

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700

I have to admit, I am more familiar with Intel and have been an Intel guy since I bought my first 286 from my Tech Neighbor, but the recent AMD's have really caught my eye... I have read a lot of threads and info on both and it almost seems it's 6 in one or 1/2 dozen in the other...

What brand is the Power Supply? Also, what kind of HD did you get? As said by the others, Intel's Core 2 Duos are beating the AMD processors right now. Here are my recommendations:

$310 - Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M sharing L2 Cache LGA 775 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115003 - Just google for some benchmarks and you will see that Intel beats out AMD right now. You could go with the E6700, but the $200 increase for a few hundred megahertz doesn't seem worth it to me, especially since that is the only difference between the two.

$140 - Motherboard - ASUS P5B Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131030 - You could choose a P5B deluxe if you think that you need it, but the P5B is fine for most people.

$263 - Ram - CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145590 - The DDR2 800 is a lot faster than the DDR 400.

$450 - Video Card - eVGA 640-P2-N821-AR GeForce 8800GTS 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card - http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16814130071 - That will be a nice video card that should last you for a while. I am not up on Nvidia's stuff, but I feel like I have heard that the 8800's aren't fully direct X 10, although I am not sure.

$36 - LITE-ON Black 16X DVD+R 2M Cache ATAPI/E-IDE DVD Burner With LightScribe Retai - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106015 - The retail LiteOn drives come with nice software (nero and power dvd). Liteon is highly recommended around these forums. You can look at some of their other offerings, but I couldn't find a 18X DVD burner with lightscribe from LiteOn, so if you need both of those functions, then I guess the one you picked will be okay too.

$90 - OS - Windows XP Home - Microsoft Windows XP Home Sp2b 1pk w/Upgrade Coupon for Vista - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116169

Just curious, what case did you get?

That totals up to $1289 (w/o shipping, case, PSU, HD, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers) Ejnoy your Build!

The Power Supply is

(which I found out after the fact has had some bad mojo around it)

and the HD is a 200GB Western Digital I have in my Current PC... I will buy another as a back up eventually but not in the inital build

and the case is
