ProTools comp Build

Well I think its about time for a new comp now that I have protools and cant edit worth **** because i have 383 mb of rdram on my 99 gateway.
I want to build a new comp that can run protools with ease and play high-end video games.

My next paycheck is going to be about 450 so it isnt much to work with but i want a basic build for right now and add on from paycheck to paycheck.

So basically I need to know what to get with that 450$ processor wise, mother board wise, and I have a geforce fx 5200 agp slot so I dont know if i should get a new video card or what. Im thinkin of goin with amd.

I dont need:Soundcard,Disk drives, if video card will work with motherboard then ill just keep that for now as well
I have 19 inch flat panel and keyboard and mouse

Unfortunately, $450 makes it impossible to build a decent computer. Can you wait until you get 2 or 3 paychecks? If you need it now, I'd get a Dell for that kind of money.

You won't want an AGP card... it is hard to find motherboards for higher end builds that support AGP still.

If you decide to go Intel and want to play the top games like F.E.A.R or Oblivion and can scrape up a few hundred more then try this budget build. It isn't the latest and greatest CPU but it is dual core and the mobo is very overclockable, if that's your thing.

Subtotal: $834.00 approx, shipping should be around $30.

Still need an OS and all.... Unless I am missing something, that's about as budget a gamer as you can get. Well, you could downgrade the Video Card and save about $100 (I think) if you get a 7650 gs.

There is stuff still to add, but this gives you the basics... enjoy!

ProTools has some unique requirements and compatibility issues. You need to research compatibility on Digidesign's website before choosing *any* components. Tim's recommendations will probably not be very valid.
