Need some suggestions

Ok so I'm trying my hand at a low cost set-up for a relative. I was trying to keep it under $600. What I have put together right now is $600.43. I still need the case and the PSU. If you could make any suggestions for these and if you know of anyway to cut back in spots. It's mainly going to be used for basic websurfing/e-mail, pictures, and cd burning, nothing to graphically challenging. Thanks in advance !

If the relative is not a gamer you could use a motherboard with on-board video to save the cost of the video card.

And just get a DVD burner...it can do everything except do disc to disc on the fly copies. It'll read and write to CDs and DVDs.

Since it looks like you still need an OS/keyboard/mouse/case/PSU your looking at probably another $200.
If you want a home build, look at on-board video/uATX motherboard/1 DVD only.
It's going to be tough to meet the $600 limit for a complete home build.

I found this one:

ASUS K8V-MX Socket 754 VIA K8M800 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

And this to go with it:

AMD Sempron 64 3400+ Palermo 2.0GHz Socket 754 Processor Model SDA3400BXBOX - Retail

This drops the price about $150.00. Will this still be decent? I don't want it to be too slow. If I have to go a bit over 600.00 it wouldn't be the worst thing. Thanks for the input.

Hate to sound picky but it would be so much nicer if I didn't have to click a link for each product you chose...

Anyhoo, looks like the others beat me to it as far as suggestions go.

Don't worry about speed, it's not really necessary for the light uses your relative will use it for and the system you got going there will be plenty fast enough.

Have fun building!

Well you might like SOME upgradability, so how about this:

Should be more than enough for a budget system @ $460.

I would personally go with this PSU and Case combo:

Coolermaster RC-3 $40

Silverstone 360W $37.99

How about $665 shipped for something considerably better than what you have put together? This is complete with everything except an OS.

Enlight 7250 case w/ 350 watt PSU
Asus P5PE-VM
Pentium-D 915
2x512 mb Corsair VS DDR400
Seagate 80gb 7200.9 SATA
Lite-On DVD burner retail w/ Lightscribe
Viewsonic Q7B-3 17" LCD w/speakers
Logitech Cordless Internet Pro

When you get down into the Semprons on 754 with Via chipsets, that's getting pretty dated. AM2 is not suitable for budget builds yet and decent 939's are getting hard to find.

By the way, the current Enlight power supplies are built by Delta, not Sirtec like the previous ones.

Cool.

Its a shame that Delta has been now limiting itself to people like Dell and other big names..and not really dealing to the retail crowds nowadays..
