Is this compatible

I have been wanting to build a computer for a while I have taken apart two other computers and then put them back together to see if it worked and they did. So I just wanted to know if these parts were compatible or if I could save some money on anything. The total price comes out to about 1400 I can go up to 1500 if its needed, but i am only going to use this pc to play games like the sims 2 and for photo editing. So is this all compatible.

You linked to IDE, flanzig.

The 7200.9 SATA is a good drive but a 7200.10 SATA is faster.

The 7200.10 series of the Seagates are faster than the 7200.9.

I heard that there was going to be some new flash drives for pc's next year so would it be worth the wait or are they going to be a little pricey.

For a few bucks more you can get the best power supply for that price range:

Agree with Mr. F that is a quality power supply at a good price.

Unless you are running at super high resolution or something, I would just get a VGA LCD. They are quite a bit cheaper. Here is a 19" widescreen for $199 before shipping: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824009092 . If you don't need a big HD, this WD 80GB would be fine: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822135106 . The 160GB that you picked is also fine, and its not that much more. The reason that they were saying Seagate is because their 7200.10 series w/ Perpendicular Recording is a really fast drive. However, the smallest .10 is 250GB. I would go with the corsair value select in 1GB or 2GB, whichever you can afford. If you look at the reviews for that mouse, they basically say that it is a piece of junk. I would just get a microsoft wired optical mouse (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826105026 ), or be ready to pay more for a good quality wireless mouse. Just FYI, one of your optical drives is out of stock til 12/16. Enjoy your build!

Yes, there will be a connection layout in the motherboard manual. But sometimes what the mobo maker names the connector pin usually isn't exactly how case connections are labeled. Any confusion at the time of making connection, come back and post your question.

I am still trying to lower the cost so is the ASUS P5B Mobo that big of a step down?
and does anyone one have any suggestions on a cheap video card that can still run the sims 2 game with mid to high settings

If you need to cut costs, the plain P5B is fine. It still has the P965 chipset. Anything cheaper that's quality would mean going with a 945P chipset.

I wouldn't go any lower than a 7600GS. You should be able to find one of those for less than $100 if you look.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133192

PNY is okay.

Anything less that will work well would probably have hypermemory or turbocache - which will eat up your already limited system ram.

Yeah I was thinking of getting that video card for now and in a couple of months upgrading to a dx10 card. But I am trying to lower the price of everything else so I can afford to get 1gb ram. On the mobo page it says i need ddr800 but some of you guys have suggested ddr667 or something else, can someone shed some light on this cause I dont know what those #s mean

This ram will work fine:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145568

The only other area to cut costs would be with a smaller hard drive. The 7200.9 drives are still decent.

So I am finally going to buy the parts today. I already bought an acer 17" for $150, Xion ATX Tower for $85, and a 430watt Antec PSU for $75.
Heres the rest of my list

Hard Drive:Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording) ST3250620AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

Video Card: PNY VCG7600SXPB GeForce 7600GS 256MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail

Ram: CORSAIR ValueSelect 512MB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Desktop Memory Model VS512MB667D2 - Retail
I will probably buy 1gb more next month

Mobo: ASUS P5B LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6300 - Retail

OS:Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 SP2b w/Upgrade Coupon for Vista - OEM

BELKIN F8E093 Anti-Static Wrist Strap - Retail

The Lite-on dvd burner I wanted is out of stock right now so I am just going to use a TDK dvd Burner that I have for now.

So does everything look right?
and one las thing I was wondering is I have a dsl modem and I currently have it hooked up to a USB port cause my old pc doesnt have the right connection so I was wondering if the ASUS mobo that im buying has the right port to connect the modem instead of using the usb plug

Good... yes, your motherboard will easily hook up to your modem. You really want at least 1gb of memory as soon as possible, just to let you know. If you can downgrade to XP Home OEM w/ upgrade coupon you could probably squeeze that in... Media Center is not the most stable operating system of all the Windows XP versions (from what a colleague told me who had trouble running MS Office on it).

Handling the ram like that is going to be a problem. That board is dual channel and is designed for matched PAIRS of ram. Yes, it will run a single 512 but at reduced performance - and there's no guarantee you will be able to match it up later.

Why don't you just wait till Feb to buy it all?

That would definitely be a good option to get the matched pair now. Hint: Be very careful when choosing the Bill Me Later option - I don't know your financial situation or responsibility, but this goes for everyone - make sure you can pay the price at the end.
