Not surprised that Raidmax power supply died quickly.

At BestBuy there isn't a huge selection but I'd get whatever Antec they have that you can afford. Err... do you have a CompUSA around? They have a wider variety.

You're going to want to get ATX 2.2

but the exact power supply is a much more complicated problem...
you need to pick a reputable brand and need to figure out the amount of power your system is going to require

heres the brand list http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195

is your sig your current system?

i love this forum!!!!!!!!!!

ok this the deal real quick:

i have that case
e6300
x1600pro pci
gigabyte 965 s3
1 gig 2x512 patriot 1.8v ram
a singel liteon dvd r

real quick.

i bought another 2 sticks of 512 same exact ram. I went to install it today after it was in i went and replugged everything. the pc turned on and then immediatly off. i sat there about to cry and then pulled the new ram out aft doing so i turned back on but the pc turned on and off, on and off and so on until i switched the off switch.

i then realized that the power plug to the psu was only half way in the surge protector! as if it was getting enough power?

i plugged in fully to a single outlet and the pc turns on and everything seems fine except (scary drumroll plz)
  • I can't get my Dell 20 inch out of sleep mode like there's no connection to the card but it doesn't say no input
  • if i plug in any of my usb item, mouse, keyboard ect. they seem to have no power. num lock light isn't on, mouse llights aren't on

the pc is on the fans are on the dvd drive is on but i cant get anything out of the usb and i cant get my monitor to boot with it at all.

-----------------

i have a best buy and radio shack thats it. I planned on buying one tonight to see if thats it and if it is then i was going to buy a good psu from new egg and return the other one.

----------------------

guys thanks so much

saw that and am thinking about it but this part scares the hell out of me:

10) Use a small screwdriver to momentarily short the power switch connector on the motherboard.

i dont even know where that is or what he means by it. i know i know total noob.

Don't worry man, that is the easiest part. You know how theres like a small group of pins where those tiny case cables attach? All you have to do is take something metal and put it in between the place where the Power_SW cable goes - for like 1 second. Easy.

ok, for anyone that has doubts about that solution in the link Newbuilder posted, don't worry and do it.

So far so good for me. Got my build back up and the new memory in. What it was I don't know but thanks to guys like NEW i dont have to worry.

Seems my cpu heat is up abit but it used to be 38/100 and now at start up it's 40/104 but I'm thinking it because it's a little humid today.

Anyways thank Newbuilder you were a big help.

No problem, and don't worry about your processor temperatures. I have my e6300 using a high end CPU cooler and still cannot get it under 40c. Your temps are WELL BELOW the 85c limit!
