Question Media test failure ????

After replacing a bad power supply on my first time at this building thing, I seem to be getting up and running BUT, I have an error message that I don't understand. When I power on I do not get the BIOS set up screen. I get : PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable. and PXE-MOF: Exciting Intel Boot Agent. and : No bootable device, insert boot disk. Does anyone know what media test failure and what cable this is referring to?? And does anyone know anything about the other messages? Help is sooooo appreciated!

Try clearing the CMOS by pulling the battery for 5 minutes.
The error is refering to a problem of some sort with the HD. Try unplugging the HD and the opticals to see if the BIOS screen shoows during boot.
Since your replacing a PSU because the first one was bad, the bad PSU could have taken out some other part.

Have you loaded your OS yet? I think that mine said the same thing (Media Test Faliure), but I just put in the Windows CD and started formatting the HD and all went well.

Yes, I did try to just load the xp media cd - but still nothing. I have the battery out as we speak. I'm going to try to replace it and start up...wish me luck!

Make sure in your BIOS you have your CD-ROM drive set to the first boot device! Then the hard drive.

My problem is that I can't get to the BIOS. I have removed and replaced the battery to try to reset the CMOS - but that didn't change anything. When I power on, it attempts to initialize and connect, but then I get the media test failure check cable message. and exiting intel boot agent message. it also says no bootable device, insert boot disk. I have tried to run the windows xp media. but it still says no bootable device. Any ideas! I have absolute faith in you guys!

Did you try to boot without any drives? Should at least see the BIOS splash screen.
How do you have the Optical drive set up? 80 wire data cable(blue connector to mobo/black on other end.gray in the middle) if this, plug the CD into the black connector and set the jumper to CS(cable Select)

still trying! don't want to give up! I know you guys are amazing and canconquer this

I have tried to boot without any drives as well as changing the cd rom drive data cable to the cable select jumper (I had it as master). Which poses the question: I only have one IDE slot on the mb. Am I correct in thinking that my SATA hard drive just uses the red SATA cable? There are 6 SATA slots on the mb. Also, does it matter which one I connect to? Could any of this be related to my "media test failure, check cable" message?

check the mobo manual on the SATA connections. They probably say SATA 1,SATA2 and some listed as SATA RAID. Use the one listed as SATA1. Use the red SATA cable and also connect a power connector. You use either a regular 4 pin molex OR ones marked SATA(if your psu has them).

You have to press Del to enter the BIOS or check your motherboard manual. Right after you turn on your PC hold the Del key.

If I press anything on the keyboard it just repeats the same sequence:

Intel (R) Boot Agent GEv.1.2.40 Beta-5
Intel Boot Agent PXE Base Code (PXE2.1 build 085
Initializing and establishing link... and then it says:
PXE-E61 Media Test Failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel Boot Agent

There may be something in this about Intel Boot Agent: C:\Intel\ba_ug\index_dm.htm

The Boot Agent error: PXE-E61 refers to not making a network connection.

If you have a seperate network card installed, try boot with it removed.

Is the jumper on your CD-ROM drive set to cable select (CS)?

I can't believe I am still having trouble

After configuring the bios to read the cd rom drive and placing the boot disk in the drive, I am looking at a single blinking prompt on a blank screen. I have restarted computer, removed and replaced cd rom and searched the internet for what I might be doing wrong. Now I come to you oh wise ones. I have to get the machine working by this weekend, am I close?? Please help.

If you are trying to load Windows XP Media Center make sure you use the correct disk!! I just spent HOURS trying to load the wrong disk. The one you want, if you have the 3 CD disks, is the one that has the amber coloration and is labeled Disk 1.
It was the 3rd disk in my set, kinda backwards, freakin' Microsoft....

I've always differentiated the correct disk(s) from the unique gold reflective plating.

The media test failure appears because boot from network is in the boot order. Set your boot order to CD, then HDD, and remove any other items.

System specs, please?
