How do I...

Hey there, Mr. Right Brain-Left Brain conflicted with computer knowledge here...I have a question. I want to do something totally different, and that is to build a computer. I feel pretty confident about the resources that will help me along the way, but there is one thing I have no clue as to where to look for help. When I build my computer, I want to add a feature to it and I am not sure if it's a hardware thing or a software thing, or a combo. What I want to do is install a computer cam without buying one with the installation disc that they come with, etc. I know that in buying a cam with the disc is an easy out, but I just want to do this all on my own just to say i did it. Any help out there would be greatly appreciated. Also, I would like the name of two books that would help me a lot that all of you would recommend. One book I want would be about how computers work and the other, obviously would be how to build one. Thanks

Hawk

Welcome. This forum will help you with any questions you have along the way. This is one book I would pick up: http://www.pcmech.com/xcart/product....2&cat=0&page=1 Otherwise, researching online will help you learn all that you need to. Building a PC isn't as tough as it might seem.

All hardware that requires drivers (and cameras do) should come with a disc. It's normal, pro builders use discs to install drivers. The only other option is to download the drivers from the manufacturer - and with offbrand stuff you often can't even find a website for them - so a disc is the only viable option. A disc is not an easy out - it's a necessity in a lot of cases.
