Won't Turn On
I recently just traveled a ways with my computer in the back of my car. Before I left, it worked flawlessly, now, it won't turn on at all. I tried various troubleshoots - different outlets, unplugging various components to make sure it still had enough power, etc...
At one point, I removed all the covers to the computer, including the front panel. I tried pushing the power button with the front panel removed, and it immediately turned on. It wasn't recognizing my mouse, so I restarted it, and now, it won't turn on again. When I push the power button, a small blue light flashes on the motherboard rapidly, but it does not actually turn on. I'm guessing there is some loose wire connection somewhere. I tried wiggling around the connection from the power button to the motherboard, but that has changed nothing. I have an epox 9npa+sli motherboard. I appreciate any help, Thanks |

Tear it down and rebuild it. Something is loose or has shifted. |

Well, now, when I hold the button down, it starts to boot up for about 5 seconds or so, then it cuts off. When I move the computer to a different outlet, it does the same thing. Is it possible that the power button itself just won't stick on?

No, the power button is a momentary contact button, not a on/off switch.
Follow the procedures, please. |

Took it all apart, still the same situation. It is definitely acting like there is some loose connection, though. After I reassembled everything, I tried turning it on again, still got nothing. Then, as i moved the front panel around to look at something, it just turned on on its own. This time, it stayed on indefinitely, but nothing ever booted up or showed up on the monitor. Another thing is, when it does actually power on, the power button and reset button both do nothing, and I have to unplug the power to get it to turn off.

Did you boot it up out of the case?

I followed all the procedures, and it's still doing the same thing. Sometimes, when I push the power button, it all turns on inside - fans, harddrives, etc...but nothing shows up on the monitor, and I can't turn it back off with the power button. It only occasionally will actually turn on with the power button. Sometimes, it turns on if i am just moving the cable that runs from the power button to the motherboard, i.e. when I am moving the front panel around.

What are the complete system specs? Please list all the parts by brand and model including the power supply.
Do you have spare compatible parts you can swap in to test with? Cricket

I have:
JustPC ATX tower http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811200023 Two Geforce 6800 graphics cards Epox 9npa+sli motherboard Four sticks of Corsair 512mb, DDR400 2 80gig 7200rpm Seagate Barracuda drives on Raid0 Maxtor 300gig 7200rpm drive 74 Gig 10000rpm Raptor drive AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Clawhammer Socket 939 Antec TruepowerII 550W psu My biggest concern right now is the Raid0 drives. I unfortunately have not gotten around to backing them up lately, and I have my OS and all my files on those two drives. I do not know if I will be able to ever get at the files if I do not get this computer working. Thanks |

Not sure if you tried this or not: pull the HSU and CPU,inspect CPU for damage then reinstall just as if new parts with fresh themal compound. Then do a mininum build with 1 stick of ram/1 video card/no drives: should at least see the BIOS screen. If so, add parts one at a time.

Okay - you followed the procedures. Does it consistently POST with the motherboard OUT of the case? If so, put it back in and do not hook ANYTHING up that wasn't connected out of the case except the front panel power button. Will it consistently POST now?
