Help Please!!!! Loud Squeal :( Won't pull up bios.

Hey guys I need your help. I just finished building my first computer and on the first turn there is a loud high pitch squeal that comes out of the case. Here are the specs of the computer....

Intel E6600
Zalman 9700
EVGA 680i MB
EVGA 8800GTS
Corsair XMS2 2GB 800DDR2
WD Raptor 74GB
WD 250 GB
ThermalTake Armor Case
KingWin 600W PSU

Now when I turn on the computer there is this automatic squeal that comes out, then nothing pops up on the screen. I can then turn it off with the power button and the squeal goes up in pitch until the computer turns off. All the fans are spinning, and things like the dvd drive will open and work. All the MB leds are lighting up and the post codes do display codes but some of them go by pretty fast. I know for a fact that it is not the hard drives because I disconnected them and it still happened. I can't really work on it tonight because everyone in my house has gone to bed. I was just wondering if anyone had experienced anything like this.

Tomorrow I will write down the post codes and do a little experimenting......thanks for all your help guys.

Follow the troubleshooting instructions found here...it'll help you narrow down the cause of the problem. You must remove the motherboard from the case when doing this.

I'd be a bit suspicious of that Kingwin PSU - take a look at the label and post the 6 digit E-number on it so we can see who really makes it. It may or may not be a quality unit, and with an 8800, especially in a SLI board, you can't skimp on the power supply.

This is the only SLI-certified PSU that Kingwin makes - but it's not certified for the 8800GTS.

It *may* be okay for a single card though.

Hey guys thanks for the immediate responses and help. Ya thats the psu I got.

So this morning I got up, unplugged all the unneccessaries (case usb, 2 case fans, etc) and secured all of the connections and the thing started up perfectly. I havent gone back in yet to see what was causing the problem. I've been too busy gawking at how amazingly fast this computer is. I'm also just making sure the thing is running stable.

This is my first build so I was kind of nervous in the whole apply thermal compound step.

Using everest I found that my cpu idles at about 37C with the cpu fan on the lowest setting and peaks at about 45C under load. Are these decent numbers? I would really love not to have to undo the cooler again. Also how do numbers change over time once the compound settles?

Thanks for all the help guys. I look forward to being active on this board.

Gee, I wonder if that PSU is faulty and can't handle the full load that system is putting on it. You might be looking at getting a better one soon.

Those temps are perfectly fine.

You might see a drop of a degree or two...just don't expect much and you won't be disappointed.
