Build: Raid or no Raid

Many of you known of the wonderful issues I had with my WD raptors. Well I have my third one here and im going to install it thursday or friday. However I am now thinking of having a bit more fun and getting a second and putting it in Raid 0.

How much of a performance boost will I gain?

~Thanks~

p.s. I understand the risks...don't need to hear about em'!

Before we talk about gains, what apps do you run that you think might benefit from a set of striped (RAID 0) drives? That will help us answer your question better. HTH

Well, I'm thinking start-up times (XP Pro), Games: (BF2, Company of Heroes, Americas Army), Some multitasking (Word, Internet Explorer, iTunes, Trillian, Excel (at the same time)).

Also most likely some photoshop, and a bit of DVD editing (maybe)

Start-up times and games and maybe editiing large files will benefit, but not all that much. I you have money burning a hole in your pocket, i'd say go for it, just don't expect a huge improvement.

Ya that's what I was going to say too. Basicly. if everything else in your box is the best of the best, Raid can give you that extra boost, but it's not some magic leap in performance.
