Built first computer and having issues installing the os
I'm at a loss on this. I built a new computer two weeks ago and am having problems installling winborg on it. I've had two friends bring discs of it and all i get is error loading operating system. The first time started out fine. we partitioned out the first hard drive which was to have the os installed to it and decided not to partion the second one. well the second one was still highlighted when i hit enter to the os was going to install to it. so we stopped it and rebooted. now it won't load the os. not even from a different disc. we've gone through the bios and changed what it boots from several times. I don't think its a hardware issue as i've made certain everything was properly installed and working but heres a list of my hardware:
abit an9 32x socket am2 nividia nforce 590 sli mcp/spp 190 atx amd motherboard amd athlon 64 x2 4600+ windsor 2.4ghz 2x512kb l2 cache socket am2 processor seagate barracuda 7200 rpm 320 gb 16mb cache sata 3.0gb/s hard drive hitachi deskstar 80gb 7200 rpm 8 mb cache sata 3.0gb/s hard drive corsair xms2 2x1gb 240 pin ddr2 sdram ddr2 800 dual channel kit desktop memory evga 512-p2-n637-ar geforce 7950gt 512mb 256bit gddr3 pci expressx16 ko superclocked video card raidmax aurora rx-580f atx 580 watts power supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151136 any help and or advice would be very appreciated, thanks |

Start by zero filling both hard disks.
(Not formatting, but wiping) |

Go to the Seagate site and download their diagnostic tool, there will be a low level format utility amonst the diagnostic tools.
You download the program and copy it to a floppy disk then boot from the floppy to load the diagnostic utility.

You need to make a bootable cd from the image that you download. Then boot with that cd and the cd will start the program. Go to utilities and run the zero fill utility.

You'll need Nero or another program that burns bootable .iso images.
The best thing to get is an Ultimate Boot CD. It's free--and you can download it here http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ Darik's Boot and Nuke is on there, along with a bunch of other apps, like Seatools for running diagnostics on your hard drives. Make sure your drive order in BIOS is set to CDROM first, and startup. Then navigate to Hard Disk Tools and find the wiping utilities. Grab a book or something--it takes a LONG time. Be sure to set it to do one pass (quick format). Even that is slow. |
