New computer builder, quick list match
I basically just want a computer to run vista and aero glass on. I will use it to store songs and photos, and do school work (which mainly consists of microsoft apps and searching the net) Other than that, maybe some small time video editing. We are getting a new panny videocamera for christmas for the family and I want to be able to use Ulead Videostudio 10 to do add effects and music etc to family movies and fun little movies me and some guys will be making for a church group. (I also may do some photo touch up in photoshop)
so without further ado.... Case... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147038 Motherboard... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131578 Processor... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116001 Optical... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106015 I need help deciding a power supply, memory, and video card? I don't really know what I am looking for (obviously). I posted what I wanted above, so with that in mind, what would you all advise? Any and all help is appreciated greatly. |

Alright, based on your needs let me suggest a nicer, much more stable setup. That motherboard is not what you want for any needs - nf4 + Intel is not a good move.
Here is what I would do: CPU|http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116253 MB|http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131048 VC|http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814131011 DVD|http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106015 CASE|http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147038 PS|http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104953 MEM|http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145526 That is the type of setup I would go for if I was doing video editing and school work. If you want to play games get a stronger video card, I'd suggest the x1600 or even x1950 series.

So.... the harddrive I picked would be okay? Also, Would I be able to run 4 of the 512 ram later on if I want the boost?
Are there any extra's I would need to buy, or would that be enough for a first build? if that is enough, I will start buying the parts as i save the money! Thanks for the help I didn't pick a harddrive... woops. I meant the 250 gb western digital 7200.10, I believe I have seen it recommended before. |

What kind of budget are you working with?
It's not a good idea to buy parts one at a time here and there...save your money and then buy everything at the same time. That way you save on shipping and the warranty periods for all the parts will coincide with each other. Cricket

If you have the budget for one a Core 2 Duo would also be great. If not, stick with the Pentium D 915 I suggested with the parts above.

I really have no choice but to buy the parts seperately, or I could save up and purchase in a few months. I would like to keep it below $700. That would allow me to be comfortable with how much i am spending. I think it would be fun to mod the case(plexiglass inserts and lights etc), because I am good with do it yourself type things, but I don't want to run into problems on my first build.
Could anyone answer my above question about the ram? |

Could start off using the on-board and getting a good set of speakers to start. Then, if you don't like the on-board sound, you can up-grade to a sound card. SB Xtreme Music is supposed to be pretty good.
