greedo Non biased system help.

Hey,

So im looking to build a new rig and ive been reading up a little, but to be honest most of the jarble makes little to no sense to me, so here i am. XD

Im looking to build a computer used to play mainly mmorpgs (wow, final fantasy etc etc) dont need it to be able to be able to do much else cept run itunes and type up some papers.

I have no preference on whethere its AMD or intel (ive heard conflicts of whats better or runs smoother and to be honest it just seems like people make it up based on what they want to sell)

My budget is around 600-850 dollars. I know its not much, but i dont need a monitor, ethernet card, keyboard, mouse, or speakers. Pretty much anything i can scrap from my current pos dell i plan on it ^^

All that being said think you guys could come up with some suggestions of potential compliant lists for me? Like i said no preference on AMD or Intel, no preference on name brand or generic joe schmoe as long as you know it works well cause i sure as heck dont.

Thanks in advance

I wouldn't recommend tigerdirect as they have a reputation for bad customer service.

Here at PCMech we recommend buying from Newegg.

that rig is ok, but you probably want a sata drive, around the size of 120-160 for average/high use. it wont cost more that about $20 more. also, as for the psu, get one from the recomended psu list in the general hardware forum.

Ok, this is at the top end of your budget but it's a great system for the price.

Intel C2D E6300

Microsoft Windows XP Home

Total: $843.93

If you need to save a bit of money from this, you could re-use the optical drive from your DELL (about the only component you can reuse!), and drop the video card down to a 7600GS

Ok, well in that case I'd leave everything as it is

You might even consider, if you can afford it, bumping up the hard-drive to the 250GB version. It offers the best $ per Gigabyte.

Honestly, that bare bones kit sounds like trouble to me. ECS is a low end motherboard brand that you really don't want to have to deal with. And I suspect the 500 watt power supply is probably rubbish too. I wouldn't recommend that kit to anyone.

You really don't want to use a EIDE hard drive when SATA hard drives are pretty much the standard now. And 40GB is pretty tiny for a gaming rig by today's standards...most people go with 200GB and up now. And only 2MB cache? For gaming you'll want a 16MB cache hard drive.

That's the wrong type of RAM...you need DDR2 for that motherboard. For a C2D processor you'll want at least DDR2 667 (which that ECS doesn't seem to support).
