My dream computer to be verified.
Hello PC experts!
I am finally ready for a new build and need a little help of yours. If you find any incompatibility issues, any mistakes, suggestions or any comments please respond. I already bought a case and power supply when I upgraded my old pc. Here they are: Case - http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16811119068 PS - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153023 I also have old devices that I want to use with my new system, they are: IDE/ ATA 80-GB WD hard drive IDE/ EIDE 160-GB Maxtor hard drive IDE CD/DVD writer- Pioneer DVR-A06U IDE DVD rom drive Here is what I am going to buy: CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115004 Graphics Card - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102022 RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227118 Motherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813135026 I had most problems choosing a motherboard since all of my drives are IDE instead of Sata. I also am undecided about my video card. Here is an alternate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150183 And have doubts about the power supply if it is "good enough". This computer will eventually be overclocked in the future (probably needs better cooling system but I will worry about it later) and upgraded ram wise and to sata drives. It is to be used for gaming, video-picture editing and regular stuff. Money is not a priority but I would like to keep new parts around $700.(give or take $100) Once again please verify it and thank you very much for your opinions.

Here are my recommendations.
First, the power supply is not ATX 2.0, so it will need replacing. I'll let someone more familiar with overclocking recommend a good choice. ECS is a poor quality board. The Asus P5B will be much better. You can buy a cheap PCI card for your IDE drives. You can save a bit of cash with an e6300 CPU instead, if your budget is being stretched. The slight clock speed difference is not noticable. We usually go with eVGA video cards, they have a good reputation.

Thanks Alaron for the fast reply and great tips.
Here's the new motherboard I am heading towards now, I will definitely change it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131048 Processor stays as it is. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115004 Comments on newegg still convince me to go with this video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102022 I definitely need your help with choosing a power supply. I have no idea why it would not be compatible. Again thanks a lot for any information. |

That wouldn't be my choice - it is a good unit but it doesn't provide much power at all >30 amps. Go for something from Antec, Enermax, FSP, Seasonic, or anything else from the recommended vendors list found in the General Hardware forum.
Which video card are you going with? I don't see it using the link provided. Also note, take Newegg reviews as a grain of salt - they are not to be used to finally determine purchases.

Your budget doesn't really allow for a nice gamer, so here is what I would recommend (it goes over the budget):
$105 - ASUS P5LD2 R2.0 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 945P ATX Intel Motherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131048 - This will work ok, but just keep in mind that quad core won't work with it. And considering your IDE optical drives, you should probably get the P5LD2, not the P5B. $191 - Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz 2M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115005 $208 - CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Desktop Memory - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145098 - This will handle only a mild overclock. If you want to do major OCing, then get the Corsair XMS DDR2 800 ($264) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145590 $120 - CORSAIR CMPSU-520HX 520W Power Supply - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139001 - According to the moderators, this PSU is a really good choice. They say that it has a single beefy 12V rail of 54Amps, and it should be able to compete with the PSU's with 4 18A each 12V rails. A slightly more budget minded choice ($100) would be this Xclio 600 Watt w. 4 18A 12V Rails: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817189007 , but you would have to listen to it buzz for about 2 minutes after shutdown due to a fan control problem. $150 - SAPPHIRE 100189L Radeon X1900GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 VIVO HDCP Video Card - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102022 - I personally thought about upgrading to this for Christmas, but I decided not to b/c my PSU does not quite meet the minimum power specs. From my upgrade "research", I would say that the X1900GT is the best bang for buck "budget gamer" card right now, although I don't really know a lot about Nvidia. I would go for it simply because your budget is already stretching it for a good gamer. I think that this would be a happy medium between gaming preformance and your budget. $90 - Microsoft Windows XP Home Sp2b 1pk w/Upgrade Coupon for Vista - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116169 - This kills the budget. But you need it unless you have an XP computer that you are taking parts from that you will NOT USE AGAIN. Even then, it is a headache to get Microsoft to transfer the key. That comes out to $864. It is over your budget, but it is hard to get it to come out under $800 for a nice gamer. Enjoy your build!
