Cleaning Up Extra Cables on PSU
I have a new Enermax Noisetaker 485W. There are many extra cables that I will not use. The cluter in the upper area of the case is horrible. I have wound them up and zip-tied them together for now but is there a better way?

Can you find an unused drive bay to bundle them in?

Some members will actually hide the extra cables between the motherboard mounting tray and the case side (if there's room). Really helps to remove the clutter from the inside of the case.

When I was sleeving my PSU, I snipped a few cables off (the fan monitoring cables and the "aux" cable).
It's quite easy to shove extra cables next to the optical drive cage, or in a top slot. I had a very unsightyly mess so I wrapped everything with some green aquarium tubing, unused molexes and all. Instead of an unsightly mess, there is a single unsightly bulge.

Too bad you did not decide to go with a modular power supply. They are great for cable management.

Here is my before picture:
http://kanda.typepad.com/photos/pcpics/before.jpg And after some cable management: http://kanda.typepad.com/photos/pcpi...dwiringns0.jpg Just as Cricket was describing, I ran all but the 24 pin connector behind the mobo tray. The black plastic spiral wrap I picked up at an auto parts store for cheap. I used that instead of a sleeving kit becuase I didn't want to mess with pullin off the connectors in order to sleeve the cables. Black zip ties and white square zip tie holders I picked up at my local computer parts store for a couple of bucks...hardware stores should have them. Round cables for improved air flow and 90 degree SATA-II cables to help with management. Total cost around $12 Time around 2-3 hours as I work slow so I don't mess up It takes some time and patience but you will be happy that you did it.

It may not make a difference, but how come you're not running your RAM in Dual Channel DDR mode? From your pictures I see the sticks of RAM next to each other instead of in the same colored memory slots (to enable the Dual Channel DDR option).

Actually with that MSI mobo it's a bit different than your normal Dual Channel set up. My memory is in Dual Channel with that config...
Look here for diagram: http://kanda.typepad.com/photos/pcpi...hannel_msi.jpg Edit: Opps...that is the wrong chart for dual channel config...the proper chart was right above it: http://kanda.typepad.com/photos/pcpics/memory_dc.jpg I was confused at first also because everything I had read told me that dual channel setups use the same colored slots. I guess MSI wanted to be different. "...Unlike most designs, you must place memory modules in different color sockets in order to enable Dual Channel mode" -source Last edited by 12twelve12; 12-29-2006 at 03:46 PM. |
